In Lieu Of a table lift / motorcycle jack...

...I've been thinking of getting me one of these instead.

I'd put it under the bike like a standard motorcycle jack, but would give me the added height like a table lift. It sits at 11" high at it's lowest point, but I might be able to modify the casters so they are on the outside of the frame, rather than underneath. I will take a look at that. I'd also put the bike closer to the side away from the handle, so when the bike is higher, it will be centered over the scissors, as they close towards that side.

Thoughts? Good idea? Decent idea? Terrible idea? I am willing to modify it if need be, depending on how extreme. Thanks for the input.

Considering you can get a standard motorcycle jack for 90 bucks, and with some scrap pieces of 2x4 and pvc pipe make some adapters so you don't have to remove the exhaust to use it on a sohc4, I'd say buying and modifying that scissor table is more money and effort than it's worth. 

I guess for me it would depend on how many other uses I could get out of it.  I'm not a big fan of large pieces of equipment/tools that take up a lot of money and space but don't get used on a very regular basis.

I have a standard Sears motorcycle jack and love it.  I have seen the one in the OP's post used for motorcycles but the guy had removed the wheels to get it low enough to go under his bike and just slid it on the concrete.  You would have to use some sort of frame supports or cut a hole in the middle to provide clearance for pan access.  That jack would make it almost impossible to change the oil without a lot of modification.

Good info.

I was thinking this more as a hybrid jack / table. With my bum knee, jacks don't lift high enough, and decent tables are outside my budget, not to mention, a lot larger than the card I posted above. We have a few of these at work, and I think that I can modify it to get it to work right for me. I'm still open to more opinions.

for $220, you may  as well shell out 80 more bucks and buy their motorcycle lift. i think thats what it is, $300.  seems like a lot more work to make that work than its worth.  thats just my opinion.

My search-fu is failing me right now.  There are pictures of this somewhere on this forum.  Basically you just mount a couple of 2x4 pieces at 90 deg across the two platforms of the jack, spaced evenly with the frame rails of the bike.  Then you rip a length of pvc pipe and mount each half on each 2x4 so the frame rails rest in them.  You could do it without the pvc, but it keeps the bike from sliding off the 2x4 sections.

I have one of those and bought it with working on bikes partly in mind (got mine at Costco). At it's lowest, it's still pretty high off the ground (10.375"). It's good for rebuilding where the bike would sit on the frame rails but you eventually have to get it off. I could never get it under a bike once it's got wheels and on the ground.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

if you need i have a scanned coupon for the HF lift for 279$..worked for me, and I am happy with the lift (and use it for the GL1000 as well)

Not sure I'd want to be working around 200 kilos of bike perched that high in the air and on wheels!
I'm thinking of using some scrap heavy duty box section that was laying around here when I bought this house and making a permanent roll onto raised work station. :)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
