MY bike let me down today!
« on: March 12, 2011, 09:17:19 AM »
I got up this morning to start my bike for the relay ride today, and it wouldn't start.  Found all of my idle jets plugged with rust.  And since they're PD's I had to pull em to clean em, I set a new record cleaning them only for them clog right back up. >:(  By then I was out of time, and am now riding shotgun/navigator with someone else who brokedown last minute too.  What a way to start off the relay. :'(  I am so dissappointed right now, I think I hate my bike.

Anyways thanks for reading, rant over.

Oh well I guess there is always next year.

But seriously, in these bikes it makes a lot of sense to install those cheapo inline fuel filters between the tank and carbs.

It's amazing the crud you find in those things.

Well I just had the tank boiled out at a local shop last friday to get rid of the rust.  Their clean up job made everything worse.  Oh well, that's what I get for waiting til the last minute.  Gonna try and do another leg some time.

So maybe they screwed up and didn't flush out all the junk.  Sorry about the tough love. ;D

How ironic I catch crap about rust in my tank from a cat with the name Rust.   ;)  Did you put it there?

I'm gonna have to call foul ball on that filter. I'm not the only one here that has had problems running those in-line filters.they just don't let the fuel flow fast enough. Ya' gotta keep a clean tank with a clean petcock filter to keep those float bowls happy.

Yes Ray, I fully intend on coming up and doing that leg also.  It also killed me when I remembered your trick for a rusty tank, stick a freakin magnet in it!  It might be a band aid, but in my case it would have probably worked.  Oh well, hind sight is always 20/20.  I think I've talked Bill into coming up with me as well, bet I could get Adam, and Vern to come up too.

Oh, and please the shorter the leash the better thanks. ;)

Depends on which one you get.  Some, the $3 ones, are total crap.  I probably shouldn't have just snagged a generic pic off of google, that one I pictured is not a good example.
