Anyone ever tear a muscle?
« on: March 11, 2011, 06:08:52 PM »
I was coughing earlier and a sore muscsle in my back popped. Now I can't move without intense pain, and coughing truly sucks!
From what I've researched this sounds like a type3 muscle strain. Basically the muscle ripped in half.
Has anyone out there had something like this happen to them?

unlikely a type 3 on an opposing side from contracting muscles, but, its very common to cough so hard that your diaphragm muscles contracting and the force of your cough have mis-aligned facet joints on one or both sides of your spine.
its painful, which can cause extreme muscle tightness and pain in attached parspinal muscles..  not likely a tear in your back.
coughing could, however, cause tears in oblique, and abdominal muscles.
Rest, ice, anti inflams if your stomach tolerates, and go see someone when you get a chance.

feel/get better DP....we got a ride heading our way in the morning.  :)

Doctor said it was not type3 (you're good). I also have bronchitis. Tomorrow morning I'm taking a jolly ride to the pharmacy. I will then come home and tear down my front brake system and clean out the hidden crud.

well, thats better than what my doc has said about my back.  possibly suffering from 3 not quite right healed broken vewrtebrae from horse accident in 2006.  the pain is at at times unbearable, and not being able to lift anything over chest high gets annoying real fast.

Sorry about not replying. I've been asleep for almost 24 hours. I'm now on Prednisone, doxycycline hyclate, and albuterol (inhalor). I have zero energy but I seem to be getting over this. I'm hoping that by the end of the week I'll be close to normal.

Yes I did, I coughed from a bad case of bronchitis while lifting a heavy oblect. A chiropractor popped it back into place later that night.

They sound like ribs that have popped out at the spine.
I have 3 that go out from time to time from old injuries. A chiropractor always works for me.

BTW I've been so sick that I basically quit smoking. Now my sense of smell is going into overdrive. I've always had a sensitive nose, but this is ridiculous. Car exhaust kills me, the spice section in the grocery store is overwhelming. I can even smell the dill in the canned pickle isle! I'm not even daring to venture into the scented candle area.
I walked past a battery store and I could smell the batteries charging from 30 feet outside their garage door.
Walking past good restaurants has been amazing. The smell of good food just stops me in my tracks. Roasted garlic smell from the pizza place is soooo good.
I can even smell the oil burning in cylinder #1 while I'm riding. New headgasket should hopefully fix that.
I'm hoping I desensitise a bit. The good smells are great, but the bad smells are AWFUL!!!!
