Wow! I underestimated travel time up A1A yesterday. I think it was nearly 7:00 P.M. by the time I reached Savannah. Got back to the hotel in Flagler about 11:00 P.M. last night for a total of nearly 450 miles yesterday. Great group of guys carrying the second leg and I am grateful they were very understanding in regards to my tardiness. Another 100 miles today and I'll be back home.

As for photo updates I'll have to defer that to the second leg riders since I failed to zip up the camera pocket of my jacket and lost the camera on my return to Flagler. Photos lost: St. Augustine Lighthouse, St. John's river ferry crossing, Florida/Georgia state line crossing, and the group photo at the handoff, although riders on the second leg can provide these. The camera was an inexpensive one, and I consider the few photos it held to be more valuable than the camera.

It's been fun and I'm looking forward to following the "Adventures of Godzilla". Now, I get to start my planning for NEXT year while most everyone else is still trying to finalize their plans for THIS year!

Ride safe, secure your gear, and get TWO sets of pictures on TWO diferent cameras (just in case some nitwit fails to secure their gear...), and allow yourselves plenty of time. Take your best estimate of travel time then add 20%.

It's all up to the rest of you now!

Yeah that bites about the pictures. But we can imagine...

As to the time, I'd say take your WORST estimate of time, the longest that it would take you, and add 20%. Semantics I know.

carry on you guys.

Who uses an atlas anymore? ;D ;D

Scottly,

Where can we find 2 for 1 atlases? Mine is becoming individual pages  ;D They sure come in handy to use ALONG WITH a computer etc plus they don't have to be booted up  ;)
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

WOW! Neat idea!  Great use of the new paper technology!  I wonder when they came up with that idea?

Next thing you know, you'll be able to get the news and maybe even sports on paper too!!

Glad you made it back safely. Sorry about the camera but you deserve a round of applause for getting the Relay off to a tremendous start! You'll always be known as THE Lead Rider  :D

Didn't expect that you'd be heading back either. Iron Ass Wilbur now perhaps?!

OK guys, you can't use your atlases for this but it's time to visualize then get on your computers and find those pictures Wilbur is referring to and add him and Godzilla then post then up!  ;)

Godzilla spent the night at the Hampton Inn in Bluffton, SC.  This morning we took him up hyw 321 to Columbia, SC where he will spend the night I turned off at HWY 78 about 40 miles short of Columbia and headed back to Charleston, SC.  Leg 2 guys I am at the house.  Hope you all make it to Columbia safe and back to the ATL ok.

Sorry to hear about your camera Wilber.  No worries about being late we looked at the milage and knew you would not be there at 5:00.  I took a much needed cat nap in the grass under an oak tree while we waited for the ATL crew.  Glad you made it back safe. Here are a few pics of the hand off from last night at the Mighty 8th museum

Well the Honda's that left the line all seemed to run good but the Atlanta crew had a few issues getting out of town.  Trav-i had rust in the gas tank and could not keep his bike running and Bluezboy had some sort of electrical gremlin so they took Bluezboy's Rav 4 as a chase vehicle.  Well as luck would have it the Rav 4 serpentine belt #$%* the bed in Milledgeville, GA.  Ya go figure the chase vehicle broke down!!!

Bender01 and I meet up in Bluffton, SC and rode over to Savanna, GA to meet up with Wilber and the Atlanta crew.  I took a nice long catnap outside the Mighty 8th air force museum waiting for the Atlanta crew and Wilber.  Wilber took A-1A and called us from Brunswick, GA saying it was slow going and he was going to hop on I-95 and put the hammer down.  After watching Harleys (on trailers) heading north from Daytona all day long it was really nice to see some old Hondas roll into the parking lot.  Wilber had Godzilla on the handlebars behind the windscreen and we all got pretty excited to see the two of them.

Last night at dinner one of the waitresses took a liking to Godzilla (Hopefully Bill will post the pics) It’s not confirmed but we think Godzilla got lucky last night.  You will have to ask him for the details when you see him!!  He was kind of tight lipped about it this morning at breakfast.

Bender01 was nice enough to let me crash in his camper last night while the rest of the crew checked into the Hampton Inn.  This morning we met up for breakfast and headed out pretty early.  It was cold riding for the first hour but we knew it was going to warm up fast.  We all figured we could get 50-60 miles b/4 we needed gas so we skipped the Bluffton gas stations and hit the South Carolina back roads.  The first gas station we stopped at in very rural SC the gas pumps were not working and the lady was trying to call her boss to get them working, so after about 10 minutes we moved on.  The second gas station said “Open on Sundays” but apparently that meant after “Sunday go to meeting”.  So now we are all starting to get low on gas.  The third gas station was also closed until after Church.  Finally after several of us were just about on fumes we found an open and working gas station.  So if you are ever in rural SC on a Saturday Night make sure you gas up before Sunday.

The ride today was lots of fun five old Hondas and one repaired chase vehicle ripping up the SC back roads.  The bikes were all running good and the weather was perfect.  It was really great to meet some of the guys from the forum and I’m sure we will meet up again.  If you are reading this and on the fence about making the ride GO!!!  I think bender01 was a little worried about letting some psycho killer into his house, but I think we all found out that we are all brothers separated at birth and all piss off our significant others by accidently leaving the fuel petcock on and leaking gas in the garage and hording parts for our next project.   I know the Atlanta crew; especially the ones in the Rav4 were talking about meeting up with the TN riders and making the run to Alabama and Barber.

I peeled off short of Columbia, SC and headed back to Charleston, SC so the rest of the crew will have to fill in the ride log from here.
Thanks Everyone it was lots of fun let’s do it again soon!!!!
