Best place to buy parts in Canada
« on: March 12, 2011, 11:18:28 AM »
I need a full gasket set to start and who knows what else so where do you guys buy your stuff from ?
I tried to follow threads in the proper section but its too convoluted with misc posts :).
I am leaning towards ebay but would rather support a local supplier, let me know where you guys buy your stuff.
Thanks

For the consumable stuff and the OEM parts still available, I have found the local Honda dealer to be reasonably priced and often cheaper than distant on-line suppliers even when shipping is not considered - surprises me. You have to know your part numbers though because their computer system cannot look up older than 1979 (go figure). Parts are usually in the next day and it's close. Also, if you ask them, they will pull a big thick glossy catalog from under the counter, I think it is Parts Canada, and they can offer all sorts of third party parts for our bikes as well. Get to know the parts man behind the counter and they can help you. Shop when it is not busy for them and get their email address. Works for me.

But I have also bought lots of used parts on Ebay and Craigslist and Kijiji. I try to buy from other Canadians but there aren't that many of us with these bikes and the shipping is often a killer, especially for the bigger, heavier stuff.

Do you have a generic bike shop around,I try to support my local after market bike dealer ( for me it is Clarington cycle)

and of course like cookindaddy said if you go to   http://www.motogrid.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/7/default.aspx

and get the part number then Honda if they still carry it..

next I go to   http://www.siriusconinc.com/

I have had a couple issues with them, but their return policy is better then Crap Tire's  :)

Second the recommendation to first try the local Honda dealers.  Small Engines in Uxbridge are a Honda retailer, except that they don't handle motorcycles.  However, I've found them to be quite accommodating and able to look up availability and order for me, if I supply the part numbers.  You can find part numbers on-line at http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/ or http://www.cmsnl.com/searchparts.php?ccsForm=partslistSearch or several others.

Another spot to order some items from (e.g. gaskets) is http://www.vintagecb750.com/.  I haven't used them yet, but I believe they are located in Stratford.  Some generic items (e.g. batteries) can be obtained from Parts Canada and like, by locating them in their catalogs.  I've ordered several from the guys at DT Powersports on Lakeridge, just north of Davis.

For consumables like batteries, chains, Ferodo brake pads etc. FS Motorcycles in Toronto has great prices. I am not sure if they will ship orders.

For tires, Pete's Superbike out of Montreal is hard to beat. Very fast shipping as well.

For Hondanut!
I do have a Honda dealer close by with a very knowledgeable guy in parts you may know him, Ian use to work at Brices then Community Cycle and now the Honda dealer in Sutton RnR cycle. I will call by there in the next few days and see what he has to say. You should call by too when the weather breaks he will work out to be a valuable contact me thinks.

I'll have to check out RnR again.  I've been there a few times and believe I last picked-up some oil and filter for the Wing at their shop.  I also had a nice demo-day ride a few year's ago.

However, if you are looking for parts on an old Honda, be sure to have the part numbers with you, as they won't be able to look anything up unless you do.

More about this: I was at the local Honda shop yesterday. There are at least three of these national Canadian third party distributors.  They won't sell to us "consumerz" but you can buy through dealers. All kinds of stuff for powersports. You can check their websites but I find the web interfaces kinda clunky. Sounds good in that it is an on screen flippable page version of their big glossy catalogs but that doesn't work so well for me since I want to look at an index to find the part I want and then go to the page, etc. Best thing is to go to one of the dealers (there is a dealer locater at each) bring a cup of coffee and sit down with the book. One of them is 1300 pages! The dealers give you the prices and get you the stuff.

Well I contacted my local Honda dealer and for older stuff they have a very knowledgeable guy in thier stores, however they couldnt really help me. They can get some NOS Honda parts but for gaskets there are no sets just individual gaskets, other parts are available but very hit and miss. So I guess its off to the internet monster suppliers for me the two listed in Ontario seem to be as good as any so I will try them. As for an exhaust I guess I will keep scouring the for sale ads.
Thanks all for your input.
