hello people. potential new owner with a couple questions!
« on: March 19, 2011, 06:31:54 PM »
hello my names andoni, and am new to the forum. i've decided to move on something i've wanted to do for ages and build a cafe racer. although i've got some experience working on cars but this'll be my first bike.
anyway so i've decided on a 750 and am off to see my first one on monday. (an f2 incidentally)

was basically wondering if there are any particular problem areas i should be keeping an eye out for??
also the bike has done a claimed 45,000 miles. what kind of a mileage can these engines do?

thanks. ;

Welcome to the forum!  I'm new here too, and unfortunately not an expert.  But I would say you'd have some better luck adding some details to the post.

I do know these bikes can do a decent total mileage, but 45,000 is quite a bit.  You may be able to find something with lower miles if you look around.

How much does this one cost?
Does it run?
Is it complete?

You have a bit of an advantage if you go cafe, in terms of the cosmetic shape it's in, because you will probably be changing it so much (losing the side covers, new seat, tank etc).

Good luck.

These bike can put on a ton of mileage. Mine has 36k and when i bought it even with dirty non tuned carbs started first kick. F2s have some valve issues but ill let the f experts go deeper on that. I will say if its your first bike you may not want to cafe right away. May want to get the feel for the bike how it is and what you like. Your biggest thing is its a 30+ bike and will likely need some love to make ride good and be safe. Also if you have not taken one yet find a motorcycle safety class and get some gear. The class can save lives and personally saved me from alot of pain. But welcome and the guys here are a wander full bunch. Just remember search the for and be courteous and the guys here will be your best friends.

I'm "cafeing" out a 550 and want to eliminate the rats nest of wiring inside the headlight. A lot of the customs on e-bay and the cafe sites have re-wired from stock....could someone please post a simplified diagram for rewiring a 550

F2/3 have known exhaust valve guide problems and a scarcety of some parts(like piston rings) there are more parts out there for the K1-6---Note i left out the 7/8 as some parts are difficult for those as well

I have the K8 and had a K7 as a parts bike. I had no problem at all getting parts but I was patient. The only parts I had trouble finding were the four stock exhaust pipes in good condition, but you won't want those for a cafe.
