Stainless Steel Screw Set
« on: March 14, 2011, 02:57:47 PM »
Just joined up today
JZ

Was wondering if the stainless steel engine screw set from Spillane is a good one. The price is right. Also, the site said specify hex or Phillips. I didn't see a choice in checkout and the only pic examples for Phillips is blue. Don't want color. Any experience?
Thanks.

Welcome aboard!

Maybe you could provide the site?  Also, you probably should update your profile (middle of the blue line at the top) with a little info, like your city/state and what model bike you are working on.  Helps if everyone is talking about the same bike when responding to your posts and who knows maybe there is another member close by that could lend a hand?

Stainless cycle has kits that come in separate bags with directions. I got mine from Z1 and have 1/2 bag left over having no idea where to put the leftovers.

If I had to domit again, I would make sure I got the descriptive type of package, so you can just get to it.

The URL for spillane is

And he does indicate how to specify between Allen and Phillips

Here is an alternate site for Spillane:
http://www.metrocast.net/~spillane/index_004.htm

I would just make a note in the comments during the checkout.

why does stainlesscycle have only one kit for the 500,550,550f etc.. where the  metrocast site has different ones for each model?

The 500 (four) just grew up to be a 550 and is mostly the same.  The 550K and F's share the same engine cases.  By creating a single screw set that fits both the 500 and 550's a company reduces inventory control and cataloging costs.  The couple of screws that are left over after using a common set costs the purchaser, not the vendor, so it is a winner all the way around for the seller.  This is a very common business practice.
