Maybe they do, maybe they don't.  When I was growing up, school teachers and administrators would look the other way when bullying occurred.  I saw it happen over and over again.  Their attitude was that the victim had to learn how how to deal with it as it is a rough would out there.  The irony is that if an adult did to another adult what these kids are doing to each other, they'd be arrested for assault.

Another thing to consider is that in may places, self-defense is coming to be considered as "taking the law into you own hands" by authorities.  Victims of violence are taking the legal heat, whether criminal or civil, if they successfully defend themselves, while the perpetrators either walk or get a slap on the wrist.  Then there's the lawsuits.

I know everything I need to know about it.  The aggressor punches another kid in the face.  Then the aggessor continues to punch while the victim is trying to cover up.  Realizing he is stuck in a constant loop of getting assaulted, the victim slams the aggressor on the ground... easy.  In my kids' school they both would have been suspended (already been there and had this conversation with the guidance counselor after my kid was skipping class because of bullying).  But that would be more fair then only one kid getting suspended....

While I am inclined to agree with you, and I will unless for some reason it is shown otherwise, it is very possible that the video is misleading.  You do not know what happened before this video clip.  The big guy could have just punched the little guy's sister in the face... how do we know.

I agree with the last few posts, the people in authority i.e principals and teachers in this case will not do a whole lot about this kind of thing. Like in this video if a teacher had come around the corner just after the first punch was thrown and that little weed was dancing around like a prat then what would the teacher have done?? probably just have told them to clear off and not cause any more trouble and then the bullies are free to get up to their tricks again as soon as their gone. I've seen this kinda thing happen countless times when i was in school.

I also think that even though we don't know the full story just from this video you can get a good idea in just those 42 seconds of what was going on. It is fairly obvious this kid was being bullied, come on he's just standing there and you can see he wants no part in it while the other kid taunts him and hits him while his friends stand around filming and laughing.

This thing seems to be generating a lot of interest too on facebook alone so far so maybe at the very least it'll generate more publicity for the victims of bullies and give schools more of an incentive to clamp down on bullying.

Well you got it right, Casey has been picked on by this little #$%* and others for a long time now, if that little bastards parents think they have an assault case then they are delusional, there is already a growing group that are willing to tell about the constant abuse of this poor kid and that little prick should be charged with assault and also deprivation of liberty and anything else they can muster as an example to every bully out there, I HATE GUTLESS BASTARDS THAT PICK ON PEOPLE JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN...Vermin in my eyes.

Guys , its all over the news here in Aus, this poor kid is constantly being picked on, the news reported that there are emails coming to the school from all over the world so expect some updates on this one, i doubt it will be swept under the rug....

Family and friends are saying that this poor kid {Casey} has been bullied all his life, he finally snapped. I think that someone should give these bullies some of their own medicine but all the PC idiots would be up in arms, i blame them for the inaction in these situations.

i got into so many fight in highschool i cant even remember seemed like it would happen almost every day from this one guy.. some people never learn. i got him into a headlock oneday in gym class and put his face into the gym floor never bugged me after that.. gym teacher knew what was going on ignored it but gave me a pat on the back the day i kicked that kids ass.

Heres my take on it. Sure......we don't see the whole thing from the beginning. Yeah...maybe the big kid did screw with the scrawny punk's sister the day before. But.....from what I see is the bigger kid being bullied. Its a tough position to be in...especially nowadays. If my kid came home suspended for fighting....I sure as hell wouldn' t just buy the crap the administrators accused my kid of. I would listen to what my kid had to say about what really went down and perhaps try to drum up some witnesses or people that are more in the know about things between the 2 of them at school. I'm the type that would kick my son's a$$ for not defending himself or kick his a$$ for bullieing another kid. Damn man....ya' gotta raise your kids to stand up in this fcuked up world and a part of doing that involves the golden rule. Just from that clip alone ..my call would be that the the scrawny kid was taunting the bigger kid and he got his a$$ handed to him. I say way to go big kid. It would take alot for me to believe that it was the other way around.....so hurray for the big kid. If he was mine...suspended or not...I would take him out for a burger & shake after seein' the vid. Guys keep in mind RetroRocket is from Australlia and has access to the news there. This kid has been bullied for years by this group of kids. And all I have to say about the sister thing is this, if he were really that kid he would have kicked the little dufus while he was down. By the way it went down the big guy was a class act no kicking no taunting he just dealt with his issue then called it done. The other thing is this I knew a kid in junior high that was bullied for 6 years by a kid and one day showed up with a gun at school and tried to shoot him, this was a decade before Columbine so it wasn't as news worthy as it would have been now, but this just proves the bully policies at our schools are crap because they still do not punish the bullies before something like this happens. He could have just given the kid a bloody nose or slapped him around and left.

You think you could defend this kid when he commits a homicide by throwing this kid on his head? That could have very easily happened here.

It would have been quite hard to just walk off knowing they'll keep taunting you as you walk away and it'll all start again tomorrow. Maybe he was trying to stand up to them before by staying and trying to tell them to stop. Come on like if your backed into a situation like that which you don't want to be in then you just react without thinking. You don't even take time to think it's like a split second decision where you've just had enough and you just react and do something you normally wouldn't do and most of the time it will not be the best course of action. So what I'm trying to say is this kid obviously didn't stop and think oh I could just give him a blood nose here and that'll be the end of it he just saw the years of torment he went through and lashed out as most people would if they were pushed enough.

Yes I agree with you he could have done some serious damage to that scrawny kid but I don't think at that point he even thought about it and he definitly would not have meant for that to happen as most of the time a person who is bullied is a quiet and harmless person. Also looking at this kid he is the typical target for a bully, big and overweight. This is just my opinion anyway.

I don't think you really know what it's like to be bullied from what you say. I don't really either but there was a kid in my class who got bullied everyday for 6 years and I don't know how he didn't snap at someone over that period. This went on non stop everyday, after a while nobody would even talk to him for more than a few minutes in case they ended up getting the same treatment. This bullying took the form of name calling, stuff being thrown at him all through class and even once he was chased halfway home by someone with a pellet gun. This video just reminded me a lot about that and thinking back I wish I'd stood up for this kid in my class at some point.

I was only ever bullied by one kid and it was in primary school, it only happened for a couple of weeks on the way home from school. The kid was chasing me down towards the bus stop but i had him this time, in the morning i hid a branch in a front yard, i ducked into the front yard and hid and when the bully came round the corner i layed him out and broke his jaw, never worried me again. I was spoken too at school and got some detention but i was never bullied ever again and actually became friends with the guy later on at high school. If that kid had killed that little runt , too #$%*in bad in my opinion, some one needs to show these little pricks whats what because the politically correct a-holes have made it too easy for bullies to get away with it. If he had killed him it would not be homicide because clearly that big kid had had enough and couldn't defend himself, he just snapped. There is a long history of bullying for that poor kid, he is a victim nothing else...
