So ive been lurking here for a while. signed up when I purchased my first bike, an 81 CB 650 Custom with ~11k miles. it has seen better days, but i was looking for a small project as im yet to obtain my motorcycle license and wont be able to until the middle of april. That being said, My name is Tucker. Im a "service technician" and i know my way around most things on four wheels. Ive always loved bikes, always wanted one. the opportunity came up to snag one.. so here I am! with questions of course!
the day i brought her home.
11,819 miles. carbs were just rebuilt, all electronics work (except rear turn signals? replacing them anyways.) missing the airbox, throttle sticks (bad) and the tach kind of works? rattle can flat green (olive drab) paint job. has one originally blue fairing, one originally red fairing, not sure what the original color of the bike was as the title is long gone! also needed a new battery, but with a little starter fluid she fires right up

some quick things I have questions about! ive done some searching and poking around
-The carbs were rebuilt.. and not synced. im assuming this is why it will not really hold an idle...at all? Ive never synced carbs on a bike before.
-How do I adjust the choke cable
the right way? the wire is loose down to the actual arm.
-I cant seem to find a place to order just the glass for the speedometer? its broken and am wondering if it is NOT serviceable by itself?
-I said before the tach
kind of works. I say this because when the bike is started.. the tach slowly climbs to 2k rpm and just sits there.. even when the bike is revved. Where does the tach pull signal from? is there a way to fix this? or just a new tach?
im sure ill have more questions, but getting this thing to hold an idle and run well are my main concerns right now. like i said, im a mechanic and with enough toying im sure i could figure it out.. but any and all help is greatly appreciated! thankyou.
