Has anyone downloaded IE9 yet?
« on: March 15, 2011, 05:39:20 PM »
I just did on my laptop but haven't had time to play. It will not work with XP, only Vista and 7 so I couldn't load it to my main XP system.

What experiences have you had?

Had not till I sw this. So I tried it. I am using it as I type this and it seems pretty quick so far. A little plain looking but that seems to be the trend. I have heard that works ok and so maybe I will test it some more. It hasn't crashed yet! ;D

Another thing it does. If you opened a site and were on it for a while, then closed it and opened a new tab, it allows you to click on your top sites.

Haven't, and won't.  I jumped ship from Internet Exploder long ago, surfing along with Firefox and Safari these days.
Vastly better.

I use them all for work. Each has thier strong and weak points.
You should always give new versions a chance before blindly saying no.

I've used Firefox for years and even helped beta test version 4

I find that as the version number increases, Firefox uses more and more system RAM, only reverting if I close it and relaunch.

I might try IE9 having just installed W7

Good point Dave. Besides ie9 is free to try and is easily uninstalled. Just because ie did not work for a person how many years ago, does not mean it won't work now or will always be junk. IE9 is NOT ie6.

I've been running Win 7 for almost a year. I was using Safari, but have switched IE9. I like both, and performance is quite good on both counts as well. My system is by no means state-of-the-art and running security software up the wazoo along with a background back-up, everything is still performing well within limits in terms of performance. Now it has taken Microsoft a few years to get here.  ;)

I've been using IE9 for about 5 minutes, and it has frozen for about 30 seconds once, and refused to display this thread once(took me two tries to get in).  So far, I'm not impressed.

I've been running 7 on my desktop machine for maybe 6 months.  I just got this hand me down laptop and immediatly replaced Vista about a week ago.  This thread got me thinking, so I'm trying it.

Every browser hiccups on this site. I have used ie9, ff3 and 4 on windows and mac, safari, and opera. They have all hiccuped on this site. It happens. Though ie9 never froze when I used it. keep in mind it is not a full release either so mileage may vary.
I am not plugging for ie. The browser does have some really nice coding going on behind the scenes though and most preliminary reviews seem to like what it does while also admitting it is a continuos build.

It might be an rc but it is not rtm. 7 was released as an rc also as a free download. So rc does not mean finished.

It is the official release version. I loaded it onto my W7 13" laptop which is more or less my road computer and not used as much as my XP desktop. Less crap showing up on the screen (good for a 13") and it seems fast and without problems.

MS is calling it a "test drive". "follow the progress of the internet explorer developer platform."
So I am assuming by that, it is not the final version.

Actually, this site is, by far, the fastest and smoothest of the 12 forums i frequent.  I'm back to FF4.  I like how I can lay out my bookmarks in FF.  I tried to import them to IE9, and they were not that easy to get to.  I may have been able to rearrange them, but I lost interest.

What the heck. I got mine from a different site so I probably just have an older build then. One that is not the final.

I loaded IE9 today. Now I cannot put a web address into the address bar and click enter and get it to come up (at least I don't like to wait forever.) I have to search for it on google and click on a result found. What a PITA.

Using Vista on a 2006 or so toshiba.

Seems like my search box is gone away, too, tool bars are changed and I cannot change them back with standard options.

Did you download from Microsoft to make sure you didn't get a Beta version vs the final release? Have you done a Windows update since?

I'm using IE9. Re: searches, if you click on, and open, a new tab (far right) then just use the web address field for searches.

On xp, you cannot get 9. so 8 is it but compared to 7, 8 is SLOW. just my exp.
In 9, to do searches, you just use the URL field. If you want to add the menu bar, I think you just right click the top of the window and you should then be able to right click the menu bar.
I installed 9 and then tried working with Symantec 7.1 manager and it did not work right. Only ei7 or 8 was fully supported.
