pod filters and breather unit
« on: March 27, 2011, 08:36:53 PM »
Can oneone who is running pod air filters tell me what they did with the breather unit? Since there is no airbox anymore to connect the breather hose to what did you do? Just point the breather tube tube from the cylinder head cover down to the street? Or is there a more environmentally friendly solution? Thanks.

I am just running a cheapy auto parts store filter on mine.  I'm tempted to run a hose down to the ground to try and create a "road draft" effect and maybe slightly reduce crankcase pressure while riding.  Either way is just venting to atmosphere so you won't really be eco-friendly either way.  You'd have to tap into one of the pod bodies to pull the vapors into the intake tract for that.

I was also tempted to build an exhaust "powered" PCV system.  But that is a whole different discussion.

Thanks for your input.

I realize you are from Austin. Have you ever been to vintage bike night on Monday evenings at the Drafthouse?

Drilled and epoxied a little connector into the carb-side of the #2 Pod.
Routed the breather back into there.

5 years so far... no big problems.

Haven't been to that bike meet.  One of my friend's neighbors mentioned it to me but didn't tell me where it was at now.  I'm new to Austin but I've been riding all over.  I am trying to make my way to Dallas next weekend for the "Rockers Vs. Mods" gathering/ride.
