Part number question - chain tensioner seal/gasket ?
« on: March 16, 2011, 12:52:39 PM »
75  CB750K

While bringing my old beast back to life, I took off the cam chain tensioner mechanism to give a good cleaning as it was stuck in place.
In the process, the seal/gasket just crumbled.  It is rubber donut with the impossibly small round spring in it.   Can't find a part number for it.
My local Honda dealer doesn't really care to try to find out so.....

The seal/gasket/donut goes inside part number 4 in the pic.  Part 6 slides through it.   Anybody have any ideas short of buying another tensioner ?

Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Item #7 is part# 14592-300-306 and still available from Honda.
I had my tensioner off a while back and I don't remember seeing any donut seal unless it was part of the tensioner housing #4 part # 14530-300-010 which I think is no longer available from Honda. You will have try some other sources.

Greenjeans. I hace just had a look at my spare one and can confirm that there is a seal in there. As you say it is not just an o ring but a full seal with the small spring to provide tension. I cannot remember what I did when I put my motor together a couple of years ago but I may have just used an O ring. If you look carefully the front section of the body may just be pressed in. If that can be removed you may be able to measure up for a seal from a local seal supplier. It is possible that this tensioner is used on other Honda bikes. If that is the case then the seal may be identified in their parts breakdown. I will try a little bit harder tonight when I have a bit more time. Pat

Good idea on the other bikes...  I dig around a bit more and see what I can find.

If worse comes to worse, there are several on feebay right now....hopefully under 20 bucks.

I have had a look at the spare parts breakdowns of other Honda models but no luck with finding a part number for you and I still cannot remember what I did with mine. I will get back to you if I suddenly remember.

You could possibly tap a thread into the outer end and screw in a plug. Remove it when you need to adjust cam chain tension. Try this on a spare one first to see how it turns out. Pat
