What can I do with a loose, bent exhaust stud?
« on: March 22, 2011, 08:40:57 AM »
I have one stud on my 400f that is loose (i can screw it right out) and it is bent about 1/4 inch from the end. Can I just replace the stud? How do I get it to stay in?

Yes, you can unscrew it and replace it.  Just use Locktite on the new stud, and it should stay put just fine.

I checked motogrid and the bolts aren't even listed for the 77 model, but are available for the 75 and 76. I assume they will fit, but might stick out a little further due to the difference in collars used on those models. Does that sound right?

I don't know how different the collars are, but I would think it should be fine.  Another option is to take the bent stud to a local fastener/bolt shop and see if they can cut one to size for you.  I've had varying results with fastener/bolt shops. Some are great, some are crap.  I checked with our local dealer about your stud, and I found the same issue.  No part number listed for the '77 model.  I'd probably try the local bolt shop first. It'll most likely be cheaper and faster.
