Just did some soda blasting. The air was really wet so it kept getting cloged. So i drained my compressor and i had a decent amount of water in it. But now the drain valve wont seal so i have to go get a new valve before i can use it again.  :(
Cases are taking turns in the mineral spirits bath.

Should i soak all the gears and whatnot or leave them alone?

On the bright side, you'll have a nice new drain valve. :)

Think about getting an inline air dryer while you're getting stuff for your compressor.

Looking awesome.

Old gears can get porous on the microscopic scale, which results in lubricating oil seeping into the gears and helping them to self-lubricate.

KIDDING! :)

Go ahead and wash 'em up real nice.  It will help with inspection, and ensure that no grit or dirt gets included when you reassemble.

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

Instead of bathing in a big volume of solution I use a smaller amount and a soft brush, changing it often so it's always clean, especially for all internal parts.  When you're done oil all the steel goodies including bearings.

ok, cleaned all the gears and stuff. Sprayed them with some WD40 to keep the rust off till i get it back together.

There are a few pieces i found today that im not sure where they came from so im going to do a little searching. I think they might have come from the oil pump.

Picked up a plastigauge from the local machine shop. They just gave it to me for free. I checked 2 rod ends and they were fine so im not going to mess with the others until i get the new nuts and bolts for them along with the rest of the $223 order i placed at honda today. ordered new crank shaf bearings, half dozen seals, and nuts for the cylinder studs.

.003 is the limit.

Well i picked up my parts from honda that i ordered. Found out a few things, 1 when you order a bearing its only half ::), 2 honda doesnt have any "A" crank bearings, 3 honda doesnt have oil seal 91207-374-000 so can i re-use mine?

Do i really need to replace my bearings? If i plastigague them and they are fine will it be OK?

Well, I quit my Sushi job. I was not having fun and I had no time to work on bikes. Plastigauge the crank today and all is well so i guess i wont be replacing the bearings. .003 is the limit.

if the shells plastiguaged ok just run them, itll be ok,i thought that seal was discontinued?polish the case where the shells sit and the backs of the shells, they all must go back into the same spots, when you insert them square them down with a steel rule, find a flat plate glass and with some worn 320 wet and dry used wet, just take a few strokes on the big end cap and rods, youll see the minute high spots come off,and also polish the seating area.heres one i prepared earlier.

make these seating areas clean with any polish on a rag.

your seal looks good, they always reuse ok if someone hasnt pryed it out badly or something, steel wool all the seal seating areas in the case,i like to fit all the seals after the cases are together with a slight smear of compund on them, they close up square easier that way.

Havent forgot about this post, if you dont follow my other build here is the motor update. Clutch cover is welded up and so is the kicker hole in the case.

Things i need to do/think about now are shortening my cam chain to the right length. Also need to figure out what size base and type of head gasket i need to get. Not really sure how to decide.  :-\

was the cover damaged?you might have been able to knock a brass freeze plug into the kicker hole?that way its reversible.

No it wasnt damaged but a freeze plug would look funny on a polished aluminum cover.

I shortened my TSUBAKI cam chain. I pressed on the Link but im not sure if i need to smash the ends like the other ones. I would hate for the chain to come loose. Any advice?
Google search sorted me out. Used my chain riveter. I have never riveted a chain so that was new.

If it's anything like drive chains, there might be a spec for how large the stakes' diameters should be once they're in place.

Here is my riveting job. Dont think it will back out and it moves freely.

Well I was going to start putting the crank and conecting rods together with the new bolts that bwaller sugested but when i went looking for them I could not find them or the seals. I just saw them a few days ago so I looked everywhere for the next hour or so untill i found them. I had moved them to a safe place near the work bench where i wouldn't forget about them.  ::) Any way once i found them i realized i only had 6 sets, I need 8. So Ill order some tomorrow. Here is the differance in the 550 to 750 bolts.

I'm certainly not an expert in chain riveting, but that one on the left looks as if the outer edge started to thin out and crack.  Kinda like if you had a sphere of Play-doe and smashed it from the top.  Once you flatten it out so much the outer edge would start to crack.   Might be worth the extra time to redo it, peace of mind and all that.

Ok, i fixed the camchain.
I put the new bolts and nuts on the con rods. The bolt has a raised side that was the side i put against the con rod. Is that correct?

Got the bottom half back together.

That blows.  I have left out an oil seal before when I sealed up the cases, not fun.

No problem if you are using a cam chain with a master link.

I had already riveted the chain. No problem though. I got the chain on and then did a dry run of putting on the top half. Took a little fiddling and figuring out what was going wrong but it went on. So I'll Honda bond them together today. Then i have to put the shift mechanism back together. That part looks confusing and i remember it being difficult to take apart. Slow and steady. Thanks for the help guys.

Doing a dry run is a big help. It gets all the dowels and forks aligned so when you have hondabond everywhere the cases slide right together. Torqued all the main bolts so now i just have to put the rest of the case bolts in, then i will install the studs.

Anybody want to walk me through how to figure out what thickness base gasket and head gasket I need?
