Yeah that cost a bit, I also talked to cycle x and they said they would be able to coat my rocker arms. So ill take the best 8 and send them out to those guys.

What does cyclex charge? You mentioned they are coating them, do know what the coating is and the process?

Rocker arms and shafts are etch prepped and coated with a Flora-Polymer that can withstand over 150 thousand PSI of load.
Greatly reduced friction will increase horsepower and reduce heat.
Flora-Polymer coatings will also retain oils for better lubrication.
Note:
Minor scuffing to rocker arm surfaces which were normally not acceptable are now usable with this process.
$ 99.00 for complete valve train ( 4 shafts and 8 rocker arms ) exchange.

WOW, $99 & the shafts too! I'll be very interested to hear how they work out. For a mild street motor, that's a much more cost effective solution.

Maybe I should keep the hardweld ones for the race motor, and have CycleX do an other set for the cafe. What was their turn-around?

Sent him an email to find out. Will have to find another set of rockers though, unless I pull the top off the 550. If I do that, may as well put in the cam then, and get it degree'd later when the rockers are ready. Of course that means no comparision 'before / after' cam.

This is by far the best solution I've heard, at least for my purposes. I will be doing this in the next few months without a doubt!

Well, when you do an over bore it cost more because they have to drill the holes twice. Also they are the only people around that i have found who will bore cylinders this small. So i really have no options.

Uh...I would have been talking with Big Jay at APE to see what he could do for $400. At those prices you could afford to crate it or heavy box it and send it to a shop farther away via UPS.
That's just overboring the cylinders, nothing else?

Ok, cylinders are back. They were slug bored (bored specificly to each piston) with a clearance of .001"

What is the best way to get the paint off? I want to repaint the whole motor.

After much searching/reading on here, it seems that soda blasting is the best, as the soda just dissolves right off. I've heard bad things about sand/silica blasting, as the beads can get left behind and float around in the motor and cause havoc after your hard work.

+1 on soda blast, just make sure to mask off everything you don't want touched. Make sure you oil down the liners after washing to prevent flash rust in those nice new bores.

.001" is pretty tight... the tightest specs I've seen are Honda, at .0012"-.0015". Most aftermarket stuff is forged and wants even larger clearances.

I'll defer to Hondaman if he has the experience/proof, I just know what manufacturers and many other old time engine builders suggest. Also, any competent machinist should bore each hole to the piston that is going in it... Every new piston I've ever measured have always been within .0001" of each other, but still... that is simply how it's done, unless it's a hack running the machine...

They are custom and it is 1 pipe per cylinder.
