Help Please750K8 All Jacked Up
« on: March 18, 2011, 02:42:13 AM »
The PO put ape hangers and 3" or 4" over tubes on my baby ??? I put new bars now the tubes. Will not be able to get the stock ones till income tax check get in. So I am going to slide them up as much as possible till then.Question if I put my angle finder on the oil pan with the bike upright no one on it no kick or side stand where should I lock the tubes down? Right now it is 12 degrees high in the front. Just checked it on the side stand and it is the same so that would make it easier for someone to check for me and most years should get me in the ball park.

                                       Thanks for any help

I notice you didn't get any response. I have a stock 78 CB750K in the garage so if I can help you with the measurement I will.

I don't completely understand your description and method. I think you are saying that you don't have standard forks and you want to know how high the triple tree is from the ground so that you can adjust what you have to be like this, correct?

I don't have the ability to measure the angle that you're requesting mate, but the easiest way I can think of, is by putting your bike on the centre stand and push your forks thru the triples (or alternatively, removing the extension pieces that the PO would have fitted inside the forks on top of the springs when he installed the longer tubes, but this will reduce your fork travel exponentially) until the rear tire is around 1 inch off the ground. Obviously, you'll need to get the correct fork tubes as soon as possible, because either option is not ideal. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Terry I just want to slide them up to get the engine level is the oil pan  supposed to be level? Will get new stock tubes and inside parts when Uncle Sam sends check.

Cook  I am using the oil pan as a flat surface if I put a level on you would not even be able to see the bubble so I put my angle finder on it and I am way high in the front because of the long fork tubes the trees are stock as are the legs and wheel. My gut is telling me the oil pan should be level for proper oil pickup is this making any sense?

I understand now. Terry's method is good. On the center stand, my back wheel is 1" off the ground. Off the center stand I cannot measure with my level since I have to hold the bike but I would say the fins on the oil pan would be level with the ground.
