Lester guys
« on: March 16, 2011, 08:29:08 PM »
So Im about to put the new tires on the lesters i picked up, my question is should i run tubes or not. I know there listed as tubeless but people have said they dont have a shoulder like most tubeless rims. Is it safer to air on the side of caution and run tube or go without them. What are you guys running lesters doing?

Yeah there marked tl indicating tubeless. in the lester section of faq they also say the t and tl wheels look the same. just want to check and see if it was a better idea to just run tubes or not.

BTW, I have a set of Morris-clone Kawi wheels, which are clearly marked tubeless, and I didn't notice any difference in the bead seating area from my genuine Morris wheels, marked "TL". I plan on doing a better comparison, with both wheels side-by-side, as soon as I can...

As far as I know the difference is..
a small raised bump on the rim surface, just inboard of where the bead sits when inflated.. keeps the bead from popping off (inward)..in cases of low inflation.

thanks for the replys guy and the info. id never seen them side by side. Tubeless would be nice to run an angles air stem to make things easier on the 16in rear.

I own a cherry set of  Lesters that I will be running on my CB750 . Until I see an info sheet from LESTER saying directly that they can be run tubeless I will be running them with tubes. I have heard from a handful of guys that they have run them tubeless with no problems but not buying it. Really when it comes to your wheels and tires it's your ass on the line so I like to be 100% sure or nothing. So yeh +1 on tubes.

Back in the 70's when the Lester wheel first came out, no one I know trusted "tubeless" so we all puts tubes in when we did a conversion.  That is why I put tubes in the bike I did...Larry

Why stop at a tube..??.. moght as well run a rimstrip to make doubly sure....

A buddy of mine ran tube-type Goodyears.. tubeless on his Morris mag for years..

i have a 17 inch wire wheel here that says tubeless on it..

I pulled the tire off the Kawi tubeless rim, and there is no raised bump. In fact, I placed a straight edge across the surface, and it slopes down slightly towards the center. When I pull the tire off the Morris, I'll make sure it is similar before I decide to run tubes or not. I'm really hoping I don't have to. What do tubes cost these days? This could be the first time for me an 8 pound weight reduction took zero labor, and saved money!! :) :)
