I understand the attraction to the rat bikes and I think they are usually pretty cool and interesting to look at. Obviously the owner understands what he has built and it was all done in the interest of having fun. To me, a truly ugly bike only occurs when it is a bike that the owner has poured a lot of time and money into but just completely missed the mark. Here is one example:

I doubt if he has much trouble with people touching it. I don't think you could even make a good rat bike out of it.

Jamie that nice gold plated 750 could not be a 750 F, last year of that head was 3 years before the F came out.. I also cut my fins like on that one..

These kids will only learn the hard way. Sounds like me when I was a teen. See tarmac up close, get back up to do it again and again and again...I am just lucky that I can say this now. I was very stupid on a bike as a teen.

Re.. that twisted HD, he lost it on the headlight, too small & does not compliment the lines/look.. You have to stand back and look at a bike and make sure stuff flows together. Not my fave bike, but it took a lot of work..

Let's not leave out the factory design teams. The Victory Vision has got to take it's place here or the list will never be complete. It looks like an angry clown with it's mouth open from the front. This bike has been ridiculed by critics and enthusiasts alike but they keep trying to sell them. Maybe one day someone at Victory will actually look at one of these and figure out that their problem isn't weak marketing.

I believe My Ride, when it came out, fell into a similar category as the Victory when it first came out in 1983. People thought they were too futuristic in a sense. But, it fell in line and still looks good, in my eyes anyway.

To give you an idea of the radical change, it went from the Yamaha XS1100H "The Venturer" to the "Venture" (Royale being the one with all the extras basically) was the style, body work, motor and the fancy accessories like the CLASS system (computer controlled air suspension system).

Thought y'all might find this interesting since the Vision popped up in this thread.

A guy at work has got a Victory, dang for what he spent on it he could have had anything else, it's like a big scooter with a Harley engine strapped under it.
