Good morning from NC
« on: March 19, 2011, 07:30:14 AM »
yep, another newb.  ;D
crossing another task off my bucket list, i've 're-aquired' my 73 CB750.   The bike was originally purchased new by my dad.  I went with him to pick it up.   Though he had given me his 71 CB350 he let me ride the 750 to my high school graduation.  pretty f'n awsome that was.
Fast forward to 1978 we moved to NC from NJ.  I had sold the 350 so i was bikeless until 81 when a coworker and i decided to buy a pair of Yamaha Heritage Classic 650's.  Soooooo not the K.
My dad passed in 83, the bike was idle for a few years until handed over to my younger brother.  He also has two Harleys so the last time it hit the streets was in 91.  He's having to make a move so he brought it back in December.  So now we've come full circle.
Carbs were real bad but he had purchased a rebuilt rack ready to go with only a main jet swap.  I cleaned up the originals but opted to go with the replacements for now.  Some basic lubing tasks, inspection, new plugs, airbox off, a remote fuel tank and battery,  the old girl roared to life with a begrudging bog and occasional pop from the carbs untill all the pre lubes cleared out.  Slight idle speed adjustment kept is running smooth at 500 RPM.   I've been polishing, bronze wooling, Gunking my butt off for the last three weeks and might be able to steal a quick ride up the back road tomorrow.   The rear shocks were pretty bad so i polished what i could, clear coated the springs and painted the shock bodies gloss black.  They look pretty good.  Still needs a master cylinder kit, clutch cable, starter button and a ton of cleaning but i'v really pleased with the progress.   One thing i can tell you is this bike will never leave the family or be chopped, bobbed or modified in any way whatsoever.

Homecoming:

Cleaned up fuel tank:

Nasty carbs:

Polished shock parts:

Finished shocks:

I'll post more pics when it's showing some progress.  Thanks for the forum !

All right!!!!! I'm always happy to hear about a bike that stays in a family. I got my 350 from my dad too, except he bought it in 1996 instead of 1973.

Being your Dads I know the bike means alot to you and I congratulate you on your plan of never selling it and keeping it stock and not chopping it up. I'm sure your Dad is proud. Good luck with it. ;D Where in NC do you live?

Welcome to the forum!
It is a proven fact that modifying a SOHC Honda in any way will bring on the apocalypse.

Thanks for the welcome.  I'm in Moore County, Sandhills area.
when this one is breathing on it's own i think i'd like to do a custom.  something of a bobber/ fat tire/cafe bike with some drag strip genes.

It has '72 paint.  I guess it was titled in '73.
Always good to see things passed down stay in family. :)

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!
