Any Amerigas users?
« on: March 17, 2011, 04:53:30 AM »
Amerigas bought out the local propane company over a year ago, very bad thing for me >:( >:(.  Since then they have made three propane deliveries, overcharging me at least .50 per gallon on every delivery, total of at least $500 :o :o. On one of the deliveries they quoted me the going rate, the bill came to me 70 cents per gallon higher. I have had to call every time, they do credit me the excess charge but it is a pain to have to monitor one of the largest companies in the area.  Anyone else have a similar problem?  If it is happening to me, it has to be happening to others, almost seems criminal...Larry

No direct knowledge, but if you Google "Amerigas+complaints" sadly, you have lots of company. No competition to turn to?

Strickland propane would give them a run for their money.

A local group of Hot Air Balloonist had our tank located on a Amerigas site. Soon we found that we were locked out of our own tank and propane we paid for. They claim that we did not have safety considerations in place. But after a length lawsuit we won. Got a new tank, a new location all paid for by Amerigas...

No one to turn to as they "own" the underground tank so I am permanently locked into them

On Natural Gas myself but two coworkers have had serious problems with Amerigas. Same things you talk about like overcharging, quoting one rate and billing another, and making unscheduled tank fills. They both hate them with a passion.

I forgot about the unscheduled delivery they made, they delivered in April while the rates were still up rather than wait a couple months when the rates would go down and I really would need propane.  It really seems like criminal behavior :o but how would one go about charging a huge company with fraud, bait and switch and whatever else...Larry

Contact your states attorney's office and have a little chat with them about the price gouging and unscheduled deliveries by Amerigas.  Could end up in a "refund" to all of their customers.

We dont use amerigas, but we do have a monthly filling and budget contract with a local supplier.
We pay a monthly average ($150) and they top off each month.
summer months it may cost (them) $50 to fill. winter months it may cost $300 to fill.  but it all averages out to $150./mo
Then, each year we renew based on the previous years average useage.  With the mild winters over the past 2 years, weve gone from $220/mo, $170/mo, now $150/mo.  :)
might be good to get on a 1-year payment/filling shcedule than to deal with the BS deliveries and HUGE filling invoices, then re-negotiate your payments next year based on your useage.

I was on a payment plan.  However, I stopped paying until something was done.  I now have to prepay every delivery.  Don't have a problem with that just the overcharge.  I went to the state rep today and he gave me a form to file a complaint with the state attorney.  I'm sure I cannot be  the only one...Larry

We have been dealing with Amerigas from both Morgantown, WV and Kingwood, WV for years.  I get my welding gasses there and my son buys a good bit of CO2 from them; they also fill our propane tanks at the house which we use for a gas stove only.  They are a raving joke.  I get bills for things I've never bought, I rarely get bills for things they should be charging me for.  Sometimes we're on their regularly scheduled fill routes, sometimes we're not.  Its as if their accounting systems had been set up by baboons.  It has been that way for over 20 years, and its not one bit better today than it has ever been.  I have no idea how they stay in business, let alone grow.

Oh, there's nothing wrong with their products.  Prices on welding equipment is through the roof, but if you're just buying wire and tips, stuff like that, its a pretty good outlet.

Kong,  the bad part for me was I had a great local propane supplier until Amerigas bought them out.  :(  >:(. I am locked in as they "own" my in ground tank :'(.  I feel for you, 20 years of agony-my problems have only been a year...Larry   Are you riding in the rally when it goes through WVA?

It may be for nought, but you might want to check into whether you are actually locked in because of the tank. The telecoms tried to use that same reasoning to block competition from using "their" lines. The courts ruled against them.
