Barn Find
« on: March 19, 2011, 03:20:42 PM »
Found in a trailer. Tank, seat frame and front fender are fiberglass. Seat is funky.... RC Eng 1000 kit. Maxibore carbs. Any idea what it might be worth?

No idea... though may be better to add it to the thread at the top of this forum "Race and Performance parts for sale and wanted." with a few more details of the motor, e.g. condition, rods, cam etc.

Wrong forum? Why?
Hi Daley and welcome to the forum.
Your post is just more of a general question about a bike with perhaps a few goodies in it.
The forum mentioned above will probably give you more answers so I'll move it there.
No harm done and as you find you way around the different sections you'll get the hang of it.
Enjoy your stay with us on sohc.net.

Looks like a maybe K3 but without a title its a pain to sell.............It should be worth upwards of $2000 if it runs and doesnt have mice in the valves.  Without a history of the motor, non-running and no title, its a rolling parts bike with minimal value. If you want to sell it you should take detailed photos and get the motor and frame IDs posted.

Can I have the header..?

How do you know it is a 1000? does it have the plaque on the valve cover? You may be able to tell if its an RC cam, by the valve clearances....check them and write em down.

I'd say $1200-1500. Is there a title? If not, then less. Could be worth more in TX or Cali

Dang! I had a nice big reply and when I hit the post button I lost my connection. Stupid computer!

Try #2. Barn find was a poor choice for the topic. Sight unseen trade would be more accurate. Got it from a longtime friend in Wy. He said it was the real deal but no documentation to back it up. I have the title. Did all the 1000 kits include a tag on the valve cover? Mine doesn't have it. Some things that are diff: 140 mains. Tag on #4 carb says Maxibore. Calfab swingarm. RC pipe. Marzocchi rear shocks. Steering damper. Fiberglass front fender, tank, and seat/tail-light assembly. Somebody spent a bunch of money on this thing.

Just got it running and lovin the old school ride! This is a great site w/lots of info. If anyone has any ideas as to verfiying please let me know. Just gonna ride and enjoy. Sure is diff than my VTX1800.

It would be a fun bike to keep.

Not all 1000cc had the tag, but if it was a  Cobra package it would. Lokk on the back of the head by the carbs, some were stamped R.C.. & maybe some blocks where the raised pad is that says 736cc.
The R.C cams ran big clearances, if you go to check the valves, check them first cold, if its a mystery cam, it can be hard to tell what they should be set at.
Is the frame cut under the tank?, common mod to access topend, some are sleeved back together, some left out completely..

I bought a 900cc one that shrunk to 836cc when I opened it up..
