Oil tank question!

I am new to the forum but I have checked the FAQ and projects section, but i cant seem to find anything on where you guys put the oil tanks on a cafe build. I have heard some people mention not having an external tank, but how do you do that? I want to clean up the "triangle" on my 78 750k but I dont know what to do with the tank. any help would be greatly appreciated!

you can build it into the fuel tank, hide it under the seat hump or build something that looks good in the triangle. you cant run a 750 without a oil tank its a dry sump.

If its the bike I'm thinking of there is an undersize tank under the seat cowl.

Oh I see the Club Black is a Harley. You can see the lines coming down from the gas tank, so that's where they've hidden the oil.

The one I'm thinking of is a CB750 with the tank under the cowl.

Way too much work for a look in my book.

I can't help but think that rear tire would leave a heck of a skidmark on that oil tank.   :(

There is an appeal to the look, which a deeper look takes away. To me. That front tire is serioulsy out of place. And I know how dangerous a reduced travel front end can be.

If it doesn't work, it doesn't look good. To me.

This bike was the original inspiration for my build.  See where my build has gone once I realized I couldnt get the oil tank in the tail without deleting most of the electrical components.  And I couldn't find an oil tank that I liked.  Until one day rummaging around at The Garage Company and found a "tank" I ended up modding into my oil tank.

I know it isn't like deleting the oil tank from the triangle entirely...but if the bike is to be functional...its necessary.  Show bikes are rarely truly functional...and it just teases us all.

I love the WrenchMonkees' artsy bikes, but a bike needs to be mobile.
And mobile, to me, doesn't mean it can be pushed around in the art gallery.
So, as far as being a bike, that'll get you somewhere that thing is as handy as a condom vending machine in the Vatican. 

In my world the best and most innovative solution I've seen so far has been done by lordmember1969 over at the Norwegian cafe.. Oil tank in the swingarm.... topic.
It's not finished yet but you can see where he's going with it.

It's cheaper to learn from someone else's experience but first you have to learn to tell the difference between a fact and a Furphy.

Trying to figure this out myself...trying to figure out a good compromise between oil capacity and size...plus where to put it. Either under the fuel tank...or the tail. But I'd rather have the battery and wiring in the tail.

This bike has a great oil tank set up and you still get most of the triangle visible....

I am building a tank now and contemplated many locations. I ended up going with full function over pure aesthetics. However, I think the coolest place to try and hide it, and have it functional would be half way up in the tail with some protruding a bit below the seat. The plumbing inside the tank is important for a performance bike, but if you are just puttering around town, I guess it really doesn't matter. Here is a very simple illustration of the location I described and the plumbing I did in mine:

It was definitely a member...I used to track his build thread for that bike.  If I remember correctly, i was interested in buying a clone of that oil tank and he wanted around $600 to make one for me.  I passed...
