Self-generating race ignition

Has anyone first-hand experience of these systems?

PVL seems to be the one with a "name" to it, but Electrex (UK) do one too!

I would like to go down this route with our engine, but would really like some good feedback from anyone who has used one in anger.

i have used pvl ignitions on quite a few bikes [ all two strokes ] and found them well made and very reliable  . not sure about the electrex . one good thing about the pvl is you can have your own advance curve programed into the box [ you cant change it once its done and it has to be done at the factory when new but they dont charge much extra ]

Thanks for your input.

Do PVL have several different ignition "maps"? It would be interesting to know how to re-program it!

I should have said it is for a CB750 engine.

The one on the XR69 rep's are the same as the ones I can supply. The ignition can be delivered as fully programmable.

I've used PVL on my four stroke racers very successfully - best I've had are Interspan (bulky) and rex Caunt who works out of the units at Mallory Park. Rex's units are top class and uncommon to PVL self generators, he usually keys the rotor for the bike so there's very little setup issue. Electrex have a very good reputation but I haven't used them personally. They seem to use fairly standard PVL parts.

I've currently got a Boyer powerbox to generate sparks on my 750 - uses a stator/rotor off a CB350 in my case but have changed to the Dyna 2000 ignition to get better control over what's happening. Nearly got that all wired in so can't report back yet but we're nearly there! ;D

If money is not so important I'd go wih Rex every time, his service is impeccable and his products are extremely good...www.rexcauntracing.com
