750 wiring.... what is that?
« on: April 07, 2006, 08:36:55 AM »
ok, i rewired my  74 750, acording to the book, but leaving some stuff out since i am not going to use turn signals, horn......ect.

on th eold wiring harness (and not in th emanual diagram) near the battery box on the bike, i think, is a ~1" x 1" square black ruber box. it is near the rectifyer, battery, starter selonoid and regulator,  on the old wiring harness and i do not know what it is. it alomoist looks like the old wires for turn signals and brakes/lights go into itm but i am not sure what the crap it does?

will my lights blow if i do not ahve this on the bike, or does the regulator/rectifyer turn the alternator current in into 12v so the lights will not blow?

1 last thing, the mike ios wired according to the diagram, but should the hot wire from the alternator, recifyer/regulator system go into the battery like on a car? it looks as if it goes into the wiring for the ignition system. is that right or wrong.

the bike works, runs strong, i just do not want to wast 20$ on a new light if i am going to blow the old one.

thanks for the help

The starter motor safety switch prevents the electric starter motor from engaging unless the clutch is pulled in or the transmission is in neutral.

Mike, If you are cuttin and chopping out the bits and bobs "that you do not need" (so to speak) It might well be a good investment to ask if anyone will send you a wiring diagram for your bike by email, Then you will be able to see what is what and more importantly what DOES what!  Its well worth buying a workshop manuel with a wiring diagram in !
In my own experience...
It wasn't a Previous Owner who didnt know what he was doing that messed up your bike, it was The Previous owners mate who THOUGHT that HE did.

here is a simple wiring diagram. i have used this. it only has what the bike needs to work. maybe it wont matter since you have already finished, but it is much easier to do than the stock wiring. anything you dont see on this diagram isnt necesarry for your bike.
