old leather jacket

back in the late 70's a friend from church gave me his old leather jacket
said he bought it 20yrs ago but had quit riding for some years and wanted someone who did ride to enjoy it
i still have it and wear it a couple times a year
it is still in very good condition and i don't want to ruin it
i just oiled it again and it got me wondering
are old leather jackets from the 50's worth anything or just sentimental value
i plan on giving it to my kid (he's 40) when i cash in

they are worth a lot,depending.There are some really cool books out there about collecting leathers.Wish I knew the title of some ,sorry.
