questions on 76 CB550K2 cam chain adjustment
« on: June 10, 2011, 07:40:56 AM »
Did a tune up, valve adjustment, carb sync yesterday. I had to hold off on the cam chain adjustment as the nut was really screwed on tight and my retired mechanic friend and I worried that I might twist off the bolt before the nut came loose.  I dunno what ape locked that baby down but I'm wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom for me.  Short of any ideas I'll just wait till this fall when I plan to tear down the engine anyway.  Last thing I want to do right now however is twist that bolt off and have a non-running bike for the riding season.

Liquid wrench and heat. Not at the same time that could be bad. Not too much heat either. Don't want to melt something.

Just a quick update on this.  Over the weekend I came back this loosening this nut several times and finally it gave.  I think the lube on it soaked in and the heat from the bike running and me testing every so often finally broke it loose.  Cam chain is now tight and no more chain slape  ;D
