Must be their new M-WiFi module that's been in development.  ;D

I know the M-Unit does simplify the wiring a great deal, but yours looks, how shall I say it? Really simple. I can't see that working to support the bike as you have it installed. Maybe I missed a build day?  ;D ;D ;)

Oh, you have to plug wires into it? I was promised simplified wiring! That's it. Return!  ;D

Send it to Cal, he might be able to hack it and make it work for some old beater he has lying about or acquires...

Made some progress on the clutch. I got the last fiber disc situation taken care of. All new Barnett clutch pack with extra disc and HD springs. Oiled it all up and assembled.

Got the side cover assembled, pins in, gasket on, and all but three bolts. (Have run out for some reason, need to get more).

So, I have been humming and hawing on if I wanted to post the tank yet but I decided I would! Hope everyone digs it. My goal was unique and I think that was achieved. Little background on how I got this result....

I wanted a modern fuel cap and a fuel sensor. After a bit of searching I settled on an R6 tank. I went with this because I liked the top end shape and the fuel sensor was a nice low profile and could fit in the modified tank well. I specifically landed on a 2001. After some ebay scouring I located a dented unit with the sensor for $65.

Then came the hard part. Turning two tanks into one. My skills are not good enough to do this so I turned to Godffery. This was not a mistake. What he produced (IMHO) was... wait for it ... legendary! Here is the build thread of the tank:

http://www.vinmoto.org/gallery/v/VinMoto-Garage/album03/Godfferys-Garage-123/Parts+and+service/Fuel+Tank+Mods/Bobs+CB550-R6+Mod/

With the tank back came time to pick the color. I had found a picture of a Range Rover that had this coppery orange color. It turned out to be Vesuvius orange. I didn't want super shinny so I went with an eggshell clear to give more a satin look.

I will say this is a hard color to photograph. Sometimes it is super coppery and other time very orange depending on the time and amount of light. My garage has crappy lighting but I think what I got is a fairly good representation of the color. Really look forward to when I can get good quality pics outside. I got the filler on and mounted the black painted Honda logos as well.

I still need to get the fuel sensor in, thread sealant on the petcock (completely rebuilt) thread, and overflow tubes on. Tank also isn't fully in the frame as I am still wiring and working on the upper end of the engine.

Yeah, saw Godffrey's build on that and it is a lust worthy bit of kit.
He has some skills for certain!!

Can't imagine the expense of that melding job.

Thanks for the update!

 Look'n Good!
BTW; Thanks for the good word, this was a particularly challenging Tank build.

Looking at the Honda Badge; I wounder how it would look with the outer area of the lettering painted the same color as the tank?

Interesting idea... When I get this thing rolled out into the "real" light I think I will have a better look.

So I have been busy wiring the bike up. There is very little if anything from the original electrical system. Really just the stator and field coil. Because of that I am basically wiring from scratch. So far I have the signals working, Hi/Low, brake, tail, horn (new Joker unit), and kill all buttoned up. Working through the neutral switch, oil switch, hazard system, and fuel sensor now. Will wire in the charging system next (have the reg/rec started). At this point I am just mapping everything out with extra wire and temporary connections. Once everything is good I will loom everything together and trim back the excess. Waiting for my m-lock, new solenoid, and aux clamp. Then I can complete that 12v piece of the system. Also need to order the C5 ignition as well.

Beautiful work I really appreciate the attention to detail!  Its amazing how similar our engine builds are! I am still on the fence about lightening my crank, but it will be balanced at a minimum... I clicked through the build but didnt see what cam you ended up going with... 126-20?

I can't wait to get my head/cylinder back from Mike!

If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem... If it's an electrical problem, it's Cal's problem.

Appreciate the kind words. You are going to love his work!!

Picked it up a Yoshi from Greggo a few years ago. Actually Bill/BentOn Racing orginally purchased it back in 1985 on clearance. I found that out because he posted photos in a thread from 2009 and I recognized the box. Here is that thread. His mention of it is post 32.
