No. Spokes are sitting on the shelf. Just waiting to get the rims from Buchanan and then they will be whole.

I think it would be easier to assemble spoke the hub with sprocket off and then install sprocket and carrier after the wheel is built up.

Oh, I know. It will be coming off before I lace and true. I wanted to dry fit everything after stuff got powdered and ensure fit was correct before I got to far into the wheel.

Hello Again

Haven't posted in a bit cause I haven't been able to much on the bike this last month. Had some other time and money commitments that had to come first. My time is opening back up and the bike budget should be following suit shortly.

In the meantime I was able to do a few smaller items:

- I re-threaded one of my fork lowers
- I did get a keyless ignition system
- Working on a new wiring setup and diagram
- Installed the battery so I can test my wiring when I start running it.
- Installed some new bolts
- Prepped my brake arm for install
- Worked on the bars and controls. I drilled out the left side of the bars and in the center. Modified my left hand switch so wires would route better. Pulled wires through the bars. Mounted everything on the left and then the throttle on the right. Decided to remove the Stop/Run switch on the right side. So no drilling on the right!! Going with a different push start mounted elsewhere.

That is about it for now. Just needed to post something. Helps it feel like the project is moving forward

Man, haven't had time to work on the bike this past month let alone post anything. Budget opened up a little but no new major part purchases. I did track down a new headlight bucket. Decided to not mount the right hand controls. Going to eliminate it. Planning on mounting a Start/Stop switch under the tank.

I finally got out into he garage to work though. Man it was nice!! Decided to work on getting the case split. Finally got the last seized screw out. Had to order a stud removal tool from APE cause heat, PB Blaster, and vice grips on go two of the studs out. Unfortunately it wasn't all puppies and kittens. Two studs sheared off so I will be taking the top half to a machine shop to have them removed.

Also a not so good thing was a piece of the bottom part of the block broke out by the point mount. So the bottom half will be joining the top to the machine shop for some welding.

So while I had some hiccups I did get the case split

So next step is to remove the primary shaft and then I start the cleaning!

Was able to pick up a few parts amidst the house projects that I have had to work on. Hopefully the house will behave for a little bit now.

After awhile at the platers I got my headlight bucket ears, rear axle, and rear adjusters back. I had them finished in a brushed chrome. I really like the way they turned out. Went ahead and got the pieces dry fitted on the frame.

Started playing with height ideas on for the headlight. Also put the lower fork caps on.

Also, got the front hub dry fitted:

Received a very cool custom piece for my rear taillight that will fit under the seat cowl. Didn't have the "flex" as the plastic piece so I made some cuts. Going to weld up some panels to it aped probably have it powder coated. Then I can work on the rear piece of the seat for the finished look.

Totally scored on a new cam. Picked up a Yoshi B grind cam this weekend. It's gonna rock when the engine is all said and done.

And lastly couldn't help but snap a pick of its current state. Still a ways to go but it is kind of starting to look like a bike again

Looks like it's coming along very nicely.

One word of advice through, not sure that wire hangar is rated for the HP the new Yoshi cam will deliver. Might want to double-check your structural design there. Just saying...

What? You don't like my super high tech copper romex shocks?? They are rated to a million horsepower each!!! But have zero rebound

Thanks. That is a LED flasher I got from SuperBrightLEDs. I am running all LED's for signals and taillight and didn't want to run load resistors so I picked this guy up. I used a different model flasher before in my old FJ60. Worked just fine. Here is the link.

Was able to get the engine disassembly finished. Got the remaining gears, bearings, and shift drum out. Now just need to do a little machine work to remove two broken studs an reweld the piece that broke off.

Did have two questions hoping some folks can chime in on for me.

One. I saw these little "cracks" on the underside of the top case by the cylinder holes. On 1 and 4. Anything to be concerned about or research further?

And Two, any suggestions for prep work on the case with it being split for media blasting? Tape anything off or just blast everything?

Have it soda blasted, not glass/sand blasted. Soda will clean it as clean as a whistle with no abrasion. Plastic beads works well too.

It's difficult to tape things off, but if you do go with glass/sand (I'd strongly recommend not sand) then protect all the bearing surfaces and mating surfaces. Pre-clean the case with a degreaser to save you or the blaster from contaminating the blast cabinet with grease. Soda blasting is done outside and the media is spray-lost so that grease doesn't matter.

If soda, then a good soap/water rinse after to neutralize the soda (else paint or powder coat will not adhere) then I rinse everything with Denatured Alcohol to remove any moisture. A good powder coater or painter will then heat the cases to prep them for coating. This drives any residual impregnated grease out. Once heated, only handle with latex gloves.

All the above is based upon "you" doing the work. If a pro is doing it, they should already know these prep steps, but you can soda blast it yourself if you have a compressor. Buy true soda blast media. It's easy, very effective, and environmentally safe.

I am familiar with soda blasting. Just haven't ever had it done because no one local to me does it. I will look into doing myself. Don't know why I hadn't thought about it. Thanks for the idea!

Luckily I do have a powder coater local to me that will let me use there oven for high temp paint so I just need to decide if I am going to high temp paint or powder coat next.
