Are you using an electronic rev limiter or just eyeballing it?

As of right now, eye balling on an Acewell. Haven't gotten that far down the thought process honestly.

By electronic rev limiter, I meant the ignition - like a Dyna 2000.

Sorry, I am running Hondamans's transistorized ignition as of right now.

Ok.  I was just asking since, the engine will rev more quickly with less mass on the crankshaft.  Make sure to go easy as you feel out the limit and not whiskey throttle it.

Thanks for asking the question. I hadn't really thought about that. I think I will have to look into it. Thanks!!

The reason I brought it up is that the Dynatek Dyna 2000 ignition has an electronic rev limiter that will cut out ignition to prevent over-revving the engine.  That said, Dynatek has had some reliability issues with their products.  I had a Dyna 2000 crap out on me (likely from overheating).

I am not sure if any of the other electronic ignition systems (Pamco or otherwise) have rev limiters.

All that said, just exercise some throttle control and you should be just fine.

Started laying down some color. Still need to bake these parts. Getting the case halves masked to put color on them next.

Also, playing with the idea of picking up some Eastwoord 2K High temp matte clear to lay on the engine to give a little extra nitro resistance...

I love that cast iron VHT color.  I'm planning to do my 550's engine in that color.  Very nice work.

Laid some more color down:

Other pieces got baked and are basically ready (unless I clear coat em). Looking to clean up the details on the case halves in the next few days and will look to do a complete assembly shortly thereafter.

Great work. The colour contrast between the cast iron & the glyptal looks rad, almost a shame you won't see any of it. Glyptal coated tank, maybe? ;)

If I don't clear then I want to do a light wet sand possibly and then a buff to even it all out. Haven't decided but I can wait and do it when its one piece. By then it will be on a stand and easier to handle.

Doin' my best to get it back together. Still a few more items on the "purchase" list before it can be completed.

Thanks! I'm diggin' the contrast as well. Pretty much all the Glyptal will be covered. Some may be visible under the points cover, but that's about it.

So was able to get to a few things last night. I came to the conclusion that the hardest part for me putting this back together is going to be making sure all the parts get back in. I have had to replace so much that I have bags and bags of parts waiting to be installed. I am going to print out all the fiches and start making some better notes. I also found, despite thinking I took enough, that I am lacking some pics for reassembly. Looking at some of these old parts and have no clue what they are!! I will be fine in the long run though. More funny then anything. Will just take my time.

Got the points cover all buttoned up. Window and screws installed. Ready to on the engine when it is done:

I took the primary and kick out of the lower case to paint and cure in the oven. Got those back on last night. Bit of karma with the kick. Went on super easy the first time. Fought me last night though. Pulled out my new crank bearings to get them in and realized I only ordered 8  :( Me stupid... Not a big deal but ordered two more last night also. One of my needle bearings had come apart previously so I through a light coat of assembly lube and got it back together. Put both of them on the trans gears and got the transmission gears placed in the case.

That was good fortune to discovery the 2 missing bearings.

Have you separated your bags of parts into stages of assembly?

Right!? Luckily David Silvers has them in stock at the moment.

Starting that tonight in full. Separated some out last night but I want to print out the pages so I can mark them up as I install.

So, as I was going through gathering up part numbers and printing part fiche's I remembered I had put together a gasket/o-ring table some time back. As I recall I got a good chunk of this off the forum but I did add to it a little. thought I would share in case anyone finds it useful. Hope it helps. Attached on this post.

Glad it can be of some use. I may tweak it further as I install everything but it is overall looking solid so far.

Made a little progress today. My 12 point stainless steel ARP bolts came in today. All new shiny case bolts  8) Will post pics of those when I get them mounted. I also dropped my cylinder cover the other day and destroyed it  >:( Oh what a happy thing that was. Tracked down a 78' cover so long term I will be better off. Will have to get it all cleaned up but so is life. Also have an extra set of rockers to pick from now.

Got the shift drum installed. It seems to shift correctly but does it look ok to you guys?

Got the bearings in the rods and mounted the rods on the crank after getting it all cleaned up. Still need to fully torque the bolts down but looking good. My step dad let me borrow his digital snap-on torque wrench. Super nice!!

And pulled out the stand and got the upper half mounted in it. I rubberized my brackets and put some rubber grommets in there for safe measure to protect the paint.

Looks so sparkly and clean!
Be very diligent on putting these parts - the innards - back. It would suck to have to do this again especially after the engine is mounted (speaking for myself).
Also, be sure to leave bare contact areas where the engine mates with the frame; ensure proper ground.

No kidding. The engine parts look so clean they could be used in a surgery.

Rods torqued and installed on the crank. New primary and cam chains installed. Primary shaft all buttoned up and in. Kick all done. New case pins installed along with o-rings and oil plug. Overall decent progress. Waiting for the 2 bearing shells to come in the mail and then I am just about ready to join the cases!
