Rear wheel is just about done. Got the Cognito hub ceramic coated and the bearings installed. Sent it down to Buchanan and had it laced up to a 18" 3.5 Sun rim. Once it came back I got the Outex kit on it and then had the tire mounted and balanced. From there I got the disc mounted and have the sprocket side done except for a spacer that is on order. Once I get that guy in I can get it installed on the bike.

Looks a lot better than good! What color is the ceramic coating?  From the photo, it almost looks like a bronze-silver but it could be the lighting.

Once you get your spacer can you describe the sequence of parts out from the bearing to the swingarm on the brake side.   I have the same setup for my 550.  Seems like it will be the Cognito bracket for the caliper then the spacer, then swingarm.  Just seems like there should be something between the caliper bracket and the bearing.

Also, what caliper and master cylinder are you using?  I bought a black Brembo P32 to go with the Black Brembo 484s I am using on the front.  Haven't purchased master cylinder yet.

Thanks

Sure thing man. I'm pretty sure I know the part order but I will wait to confirm till I have it all installed and working.

I grabbed a OEM Nissin off a 09-16 GSXR 1000 for the master. The caliper is a Brembo P32 off a 02' Monster 620. Rotors are Galfer Wave with Sintered pads.

Got my front wheel back today. Didn't want to waste any time. Got the Outex kit on there and had the tire mounted and balanced. From there I got the Galfer rotors installed (pads are also ceramic galfer's). I epoxied the magnets in my sensor ring and got the mounted as well. With everything in place I went ahead and installed it on the bike.

The hub is off a 2014 R NineT. I had it recoated and installed new bearings. It is laced up to a 2.75x18 Sun rim with stainless spokes and nipples. The tire is a Avon AM26 110/80x18. The calipers are off a 2016 S1100RR.

The front fender is still pending.

I dropped it down and did a quick lock to lock test to confirm I had enough slack in my wiring. From the I cleaned up the speedo sensor wire and git wired into the loom. I mostly installed the calipers but am leaving the bolts loose for the time being (in case I need to adjust anything). With the speedo mount done I was able to reinstall my headlight and button up the bucket. I also started running my front brake lines.

I ran into an issue with my stock petcock (fuel valve) and decided to go with an inline pingel fuel valve and filter. I get pics of those when I get the installed.

Back tire isn't installed yet and tank needs some trim but I dry fitted them because why not! Starting to look like a real bike!

Your rear axle in that last pic looks very light in weight but I'm not sure about the torsional rigidity.  :P

How close are you to completion?

Why you gotta ask such hard personal questions? haha. Just kidding.

So, I'm working out a spacer issue on the rear axle. This different combination of spacers between early/late K bikes took some working through. I just ordered what I hope is the correct part. Once I get that the bike can get back on the ground. From there I can get my neutral switch dialed in and covers back on. I will then be able to set my bars to their final resting place and finish my brake and clutch lines. That will also let me complete the wiring mid bike. I've left that loose until I have bar angles and lock to lock set. I also just sent plans over to have a rear brake strap 3d printed. I want a little room for the rear wheel and for the strap to line up better with the caliper mount. I think that will take a few weeks to finish and I designed a groove into the back of it so the rear brake line will be almost invisible.

In all I think that is 4-5 weeks barring any hiccups. First try at motor start within that time frame too.

Then I get into some unknowns. After everything above is done I need to design and fabricate my side covers and seat. I'm thinking about doing something a little different and haven't modeled/built these type of parts. It is a learn as I go thing. My hope is I can get those buttoned up in 3-4 months.

So the long way to answer the question is September if I don't cock anything up.

So, I have had a few different things going. Here they are...

Got the rear wheel with the the Cognito hub all installed. Ran into some spacing issues, that after a littler research, were pretty easy fixes. This was the gap I was getting. Was about 35mm and my long spacer was over 40mm.

The crux of the issue is that I had the wrong spacer combo. The research I did turned up that there are 4 different combinations of spacers depending on if the bike is an early or late K/F bike. These are the spacers in question:

Sprocket Side (borrowing this image)

Brake Side

My issue was that I had both long ones. Being an early K bike I needed the small spacers. After getting the correct spacers on each side everything fit easy peesy.

This gave me a nice pretty rear wheel.

I don't like how the brake strap fits with this hub. It needs an offset. The strap is also a little short in the the rear caliper will be straight down. I wanted to correct this along with giving my 130 tire a little more breathing room. I mocked up a new strap and am having it 3D printed in SLS. I should have it tomorrow. I also included a grove along the back that the brake line will mount into (not visible here). If everything fits up nicely it will get machined here soon.

I also started mocking up my brackets to mount my rear taillight. It is an integrated LED off a 14' FZ09. Bracket looks a bit Frankenstein, but most of it will be hidden by the eventual seat. This is also being printed, which I should have next week to test fitment.

Up front I got my new fender in (still working on the brackets).

Additionally, I got my lock to lock set so I got the bars in position, clutch line finished, and front brake lines finished. Then I started on the loom down the hump of the frame.

Next up is getting the central wiring area cleaned up. Its a bit of a mess right now.

The axle and chain tensioners are original stock. I had them refinished with a brushed stainless. The bolts are standard stainless. I may look for an alternative on these as they don't have a tapered tip.

The axle nut is from Probolt-usa. http://www.probolt-usa.com/stainless-steel-flange-nut-castellated-m18-x-1-50mm-af27mmlssnut18150003.html

Was there some type of dust seal between the bearing and the caliper bracket on the brake side?  Also, any chance you'd share the specs on your brake strap?  I'm using the exact same setup on my 550.

thanks,

Kevin

So, I think my first stab at mocking up a part and 3d printing it went pretty well.

It fits into the swing arm perfect, offset and clearance are great, and bolt holes are solid. I am going to modify the holes for the brake line. I need to elongate them a little and add a slope on the back side so the line sites in the groove better.

I also think I am going to increase the overall length about 40-50mm so the caliper is back a little further.
