CRF250 R Clutch in a CB550K?
« on: March 25, 2011, 10:37:32 pm »
I was looking around for clutch options for my 75 Cb550. I came across the EBC CK clutch kit and noticed in the fitment tab it listed '04-'07 Honda CRF250R. Now I was curious if anyone has heard/used the CRF clutch or aftermarket clutch in there 550,or if it should even be considered an option for a replacement, street, or performance use?

happens often, the plates of my 83' GPZ750 are shared with the 2010 ZX12.

all what it means is that the friction plates are the same so you can use also use performance plates from modern models on older ones.

The plates count is going to be different, so not sure what you mean by using the "clutch of a crf450", the baskets for instance? not likely

BTW using those cross references i found a cheap Barnett plate kit that was advertised for a different model....:)

These are the very things that are found out while working in a bike shop. We need a parts man with SOHC4 experience.  ;D It is certain the same old style parts are shared between models. What I'd like is the improved part from that modern engine, exactly like Col has found.

I'm all ears Col and well done on the Island.

Looking into it a little more I am having no problem finding friction plates, but I am finding it hard to come across any clutch plates that aren't Honda OEM. Any suggestions on plates and friction form other bikes that will work?

unless you are experiencing clutch slip (and you should increase power by quite a bit to have slip), cant see a reason why not to use OEM

I looked at this thread with excitement, then thought to myself... "wait, my clutch doesn't even slip with stock springs and stock friction plates and double the stock power output." It's good to know, but I still think using the 650 primary/clutch gearing is the way to go.

I know the friction plates are the same but i'm not sure on the steel. I ended up getting steel plates from an 08' ninja 250 and friction plates from a 650. I crossed the numbers trhough on barnett's site. The only problem I am having now is finding a Clutch cover gasket. Called my local Honda dealer and part has been discontinued.

Paul, I thought you were experiencing some slip with the stock primary gearing, as well as the stock clutch components?

I've heard that Barnett clutch plates used to wear out the oil pump because of the material that they used in the friction plates.  I'm not sure if they are still using the same material or not.
All glory to the hypno-toad.

I use high quality sealant without a gasket, works just fine.
