grip removal screw up 650C
« on: March 25, 2011, 08:43:28 AM »
I was trying to make a space for a vista cruise cruise control to help out my arthritis on long trips. I pried and pulled on th grip and could not open enough space for the gadget.  This morning I have a built in cruise contral as the grip will no longer self return to idle .  What did I screw up this time?

inside the controle there is a pully system that the pull cable and push cable attach to you might have just pulled it out of its seat..

You also could have damaged the plastic sleeve, better to take apart and check it out.  If you have an air compressor put a long nozzle under the grip between the housing and grip-you should be able to pull the grip off...Larry

In future, the way I take a grip off that I want to re-use is get a long thin screw driver under the rubber and give a short spritz of WD-40 alongside the screw driver.  Rotating the screw driver as if using a pepper grater further gets the WD-40 around and the grip slides right off.

I'm gussing you have bar-end mirros?  The rubber is now rubboing too hard against that.
Or, youpshed the rubber far enogh away to get the gizmo on, but rubber memory got it back too original shape and is now rubbing too hard agaisnt that,
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

all thanks to those who helped me.  After examining the grip and noticing that when I pried on the grip I disturbed the switch.  That is I pushed it about 1/2 inch toward the master cylinder.  This bound up the cables and stopped rotation.  Repositioned the switch and it is fixed.  Still do not have the grip cruise thing fixed .  But I have 2 methods for  removing the grip to open a gap.
