stand rubbers
« on: April 09, 2006, 12:07:55 AM »
Greetings.
My 750 K2 is missing the side stand and centre stand cushioning rubbers. Currently the only thing that the side stand touches when folded up is the spring hitting the seam of the pipe, and this a long way anyway from the little lug further along the pipe that I suppose holds the rubber. Even if I push the side stand laterally (there's a bit of play there) the spring misses the pipe but the foot of the stand still doesn't go in far enough to make contact with that lug (even allowing for a half inch or so of rubber cushion - if it was there).
My parts book also shows a rubber for the centre stand to rest against, but I can't see where that mounts unless it is just bonded to the pipe (or stand?) in some way - currently that stand too just comes to rest against the underside of the pipe (right on the seam). Am I missing a lug here? They are original HM341 pipes (which will soon be for sale btw) and don't appear to have had anything broken off or modified.
Anybody got any clues?? Any help greatly appreciated.
Peter.

Hi, I had exactly the same problem. I went to a vintage auto supply company who specialise in rubber seals. I bought a 1 inch square of very hard rubber, cut it so size and slipped it into the holder on the bottom of the pipe. Not original, no-one knows, saves the pipe, I never think about it any more. Unless you want to spend $30 for an OEM part, if you can find one, I certainly didn't.

The OEM rubber bumpers, if you are interested in those, are still available. I ordered mine through ServiceHonda a little more than a year ago.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Are there supposed to be two seperate rubbers - one for the side stand and one for the centre stand? If so, where does the rubber for the centre stand go?

On my 341's there is a place to mount the rubbers. You should look at the ServiceHonda web site and look at their microfiche on your model. And yes there are two rubbers.

Just look up your rubbers on ServiceHonda's remote web connection and your numbers are rubber, main stand stopper, 50524-001-000 or 95011-61000 for $2.43. Rubber, side stand 50543-283-000 or 95011-63000 for $.45. Hopes this helps.

This is different but related.  I got the rubber piece for my side stand and have tried to put it on.  There is a metal "cleat" in the way that I cannot get around  >:(

Does anyone know how to install the new rubber piece without tearing the hell out of it?

Mick - My sidestand was not hitting the new rubber either, but it was due to wear on the sidestand pivot bolt and a slighly bent sidestand (common issues). A new bolt and a bit of careful heating to reshape the stand and I now make contact with the rubber, although I have turned the rubber 90degrees to make even better contact. New bolt etc also helped the bike to sit a bit more upright on the stand.

Kach_me - As for the fitting of these rubbers, I managed to work the rubber bung through the hole in the cleat by putting a couple of drops of oil on it and carefully pushing it a bit at a time with a small piese of round rod, and some twisting and manipulating - eventually seated home just nice.

(Rubbers are on HM341's and bought from DSS)

Hope this helps.
Peter.
