dumb question i know...oil filter washer
« on: March 28, 2011, 03:49:11 PM »
Where does the washer go in a cb550 oil filter? Between the housing and spring or filter and spring?  When I took it off (having to cut off the bolt) it all popped out and I don't wanna put it together wrong

Between the filter and spring - it goes on top of the spring before you thread the bolt thru the filter.

Filter and spring is the correct location.  It usually sticks to the old filter and many times gets thrown out  with the old filter or drops into the oil pan...Larry

Between spring and filter. It is to protect the rubber part on the filter.

A good resource for parts orientation can often be found at a supplier's website, for example  http://www.motogrid.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/7/honda.aspx

Last time I checked Home Depot had the washer needed. The interior dia is too small but a couple of minutes with a rat tail file and it will slide right on.
