Topic: riding 2 up

 How many of you guys ride with a passenger? I was just wondering if any of you fine it a bit of a pain running the foot controls because your forward more. Is the 550 & 750 more passenger friendly?

Obviously the 750 copes a bit better, but they are both ok 2up. We take the wife's 400 out 2up sometimes and even that is roomy enough, although it does feel the extra weight a bit. Just raise the rear suspension preload to the top, couple of extra lbs in the tyres and away you go!

Perhaps an equally important factor is your height. I'm 6'4" but riding double I'm a bit cramped on my 750 as you say. Even riding solo, I feel better with my butt back toward the passenger portion of the seat, if not occupying some of it.

MY 550 rides nice two up, the only problem is sliding up the tank because the seat foam is compacted at the front.

The 750 is much easier with 2 up. My 550 with 2 up is cramped, but I don't ride with passengers much.

Would you believe when I was younger and stupid and also thinner I rode 4 up my wife  and I and her younger brother and sister,not something I would recommend now at all.Dannie

When I bought the 750 in "71 there was lots of room for the both us. But I think the bike has shrunk  because now that we're in our fifties the seat seems smaller. I'm 6'3 and my wife is about 5'4. I've put a backrest on it so she can scoot back on the seat a bit Having said that it's still a blast to ride 2 up on it.

My 400 is a bit cramped and I am choked up on the seat, nearly against the tank, but its not bad.  The bike takes it all in stride.  Crank the shock pre-load up to 5 and away we go.

Make sure rider can ride too and not wiggle around.   Unless its off bike!!!!!!!

I had one hitchhiker who had never been on the back of a bike.  Almost
crashed at every corner.....then I figured out that she didn't like leaning
with the bike. We were fighting each other at every bend. 

The other no-no is wiggling all over the place just as you are trying to stop
just when control is nil.

I don't carry many passengers, but those that do ride with me get a short
lecture on proper etiquette

My kids love riding with me, but at 11 & 13, they're not too big.  It's still pretty comfortable with my wife.  I just have a bit of a time with everyone's feet getting in the way of mine, seems I'm always telling them to move them back a bit.

Another thing to do is get them used to a good panic stop.  If you need to react them getting scared and doin somethin irrational dont help.

Couldn't agree more.  I give my kids 'the talk' before each ride, no matter how many times they roll their eyes.  I think I'll try the panic test to show them how serious it can be.

I do it here in front of work all the time.   Son thinks its cool so far but he dosnt move around either.
We seen to get into it more doin the slug bug thing anymore.   He gets mad cause i can see them before him.

here's my solution to riding 2 up... get bikes that are solo seats and no rear pegs, then only the best of riders will climb on the back with you.

I fitted a'King&Queen seat (remember them in 1977?)looked hideous but was a bit more comfortable and stopped passedger coming too far forward. drove all the way to Circuit Paul Ricard in south of France for Bol' D'or (and back) 3 days down 2 days back or miss the ferry

I've probably driven more with a passenger than without.
My kids love to ride and so does my wife.
If fact, my wife's desire to ride is why I got the bike in the first place.
There's plenty of room on my seat for the both of us.  On quick stops we get pretty close but that ain't all bad.
The only thing I had to teach my passengers is not to "peck" me on the back of the head of back at every gear shift.

On the 750 I just find that I am more reserved in the turns with the wife on. Single I push the bike hard and make it happen. I find my 2-up turns are generally wider and require better planning.

when my bike threw the masterlink clip on our trip to vegas and we rode 2 up on the viffer... i spent a lot of time laying on the tank with her laying on my back... when you're wearing lots of gear you can barely tell that you have the upper body weight of 115 pounds on you.

Just as I thought, the bikes do shrink when left out in the rain.  We have the same problem.  We used to fit  on a 750 just fine, now the bike is smaller and things get cozy.

Dave, one other small thing I noticed is that the bike seems to have less power. I'm sure I/we haven't gained THAT much weight over the years!

Heart monitor, lights every time the heart constricts.  I would say its flat lined.
