Woho Black Betty....

Hi!

Today I took the grinder and worked on the seat again. The pictures are explaining themselves, but I will describe the cutting process nevertheless.









Here you see the finished seat plate. Just the crooked sheets will be trimmed into the right lenght. I bend them to make them fit the tail just provisional first.
Finally, there is now enough space for the battery, the fuse box and the starter relay. It all will be connected with one connector (except the starter relais, which will be connected with a high current plug) guaranteeing fast access to the electronics.



I corrected the edge so the seat plate is now smoothly curved.







Finally it looks like that. As a first result it looks not bad, I guess. I hope the whole shape will be good when the bike is finished, but at first I am just a bit confident with this work.
The most interesting aspect to change the original seat was that I could use the folding mechanism of the original seat.

Actually I have to build it on low budget until September, but meantime I try to finish all the smaller parts. Probably I will give the engine case and the frame away for plastic coating earlier, than the other parts for coating.

Today the tail light arrived.
It's an LED one and I will strip it down to the glass, because I don't need the hull. It will be placed in the end of the tail and I think it will be looking good with its diametre of only 60mm.

Hi,

Today I began to work again after having a short break. The following tasks were to do:


-exchange fork seals
-reproduce the tank's clamps out of steel
-make some sheets to enforce the seat's stability
-coat brake caliper


Unfortunately the 30 year-old fork seals were stuck as hell. Is there any proper solution to get them out?


A couple of pics of today's work:




The clamps I made of steel fit between the tank and the frame now.


 Oooops, cracked.




 These sheets shall reinforce the seat and close the crack when they are welded onto the seat.

Furthermore, I thought about this color for my bike:



It's called silver raw titanium and I think it would fit. What's your opinion about this color?

Stick em in boiling water. Help soften em up. Also don't use too much force. You could end up ruining your fork lowers.

Hey,

thanks for the tip. I was so frustrated that I tried it another time and I got them now. The new fork seals are already pressed in, so I can assemble the fork the next days.

Yep,
as I went around the area with my moped yesterday I saw this machine with exactly this color at the sidewalk. It's semi-matt and I think it will be a good choice for the bike. But I wonder if it will match the glossy black of e.g. the brake caliper...?

Yesterday I spend some hours to overhaul the carbs. My work consisted of: Disassembling, an ultrasonic cleaning treatment, new greasing and reassembling.

The results are looking pretty good now, after reassembling had taken much of time and nerves.



Disassembled and sorted by each's carb parts.



Many, many screws.



Our "little" but useful 4 litre ultrasonic bath.





Right one: Before / Left one: After - looking better, isn't it?

I'm sorry for the delay, even if my welder arrived the welding wire ran empty immediately. Currently I'm waiting for a adapter to fit a basket coil onto my welder. I am looking forward to go on with the build the next days.

Today I got some beautiful LED signal lamps for my armatures, yellow for ignition, red for critical oil level, blue for full beam and green for indicators. Before the armatures are finished there is still a quantum of filing work to do. Pics will follow.

Hi guys.

Sorry for the delay, but the build didn't make far progress the last weeks. I at least welded the seat plate, tank will follow.
Unfortunately there is no time the next two weeks to go on, I have to spend two weeks for a traineeship in Munich.

When I am back I will post the latest progress here.

Hey there,

It's been a long time but now I am the proud owner of a customized 4-2 exhaust system (by Benjie) for my CB 550 F.
Meanwhile I've collected some parts and did minor works. I went on making photos of every step, but I am not able to keep posting here and an my blog, just too busy the last months.

But now I need your help again. I am stuck with the wheels, exactly: the rims. My rims are not in a tenable condition, so i thought of getting new aluminium rims (probably black anodized).

My second thought is to have the stock rims plastic/powder-coated. Anyone here who has experience with that?
I am not sure if plastic coated rims are vulnerable for "rockfall and scratches".

Ooops, nobody havin an idea?

Here's the next conception. Got an boxed swingarm for my CB today and thought of placing an extra oil tank into it, since the bridge between the two arms is perfectly leakproof.

It would hold up to a litre of oil and could be connected via the CB 750 oilfilter->oil cooler adaptor. I read the thread about someone realizing some similar project but unfortunately this thread is dead.

What do you think?

Thats where my Buell's oil bladder is. I don't know if its necessary? What are the benefits cooler operating temp?

I think so. First cooler operating temp, second some more oil than stock in the oil circulation. Especially this is interesting if it comes to more than 550ccm in some time.

The stock pump is quite "powerful".
Even the pumps of the smaller 4's can be adapted to an aftermarket oil cooler, so the pump should be working sufficiently.

can you take the oil stream for gearbox..and let that arraund svingarn..that are more safe then the main bearing oil line...but all others builds are on 750
who needs the extra oil kapasity. autside engine..550 have already all oil in  the engine..so need no ekstra...a deeper sump are more safe. to get more oil volume.add to a small kooler if needet......but i like to see it done your vay..so just make" der heise ding..."
