I ride a '75 CB550, and it had an aftermarket ignition on it when I bought it. It has since gotten jammed, so I bought a new switch. Both the new and old switches have 4 pin connectors. However, they fit together, so I'm going to have to some soldering.
My problem is that they 4 wires on my new ignition are red, green, black and black/white.
The old ones are red, black, brown and brown/white.
According to the wiring diagram, there the 4 wires from the switch do the following:
red - battery
black - starter
red/yellow - start switch
black* - voltage regulator (there are two black wires on the diagram)
I couldn't find a brand name on either switches. I'm mostly wondering if there's any general rules regarding colors and wire assignment, other than red and black.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
