77F stock filter/cooler

If somebody gave you a free stock filter/cooler assy with the long bolt from a 77 F would it be worthwhile to install on my 76F? I'm thinking Honda thought it was a good idea.

It does add cooling.  If it isn't in the way of your exhaust I'd go for it.  Only issue I've found is that when you get a new oil filter it only comes with one o-ring for the housing.

It was one of the [several] causes of the low-oil-to-the-top-end issue in the F2 and F3 engines. It unfortunately "cools" the oil by restricitng its flow via 2 small ports where it is supposed to slow down and transfer heat to the plate, but this same action, if the oil is a higher detergent type, makes the oil foam right past here as the holes open back up, just in time to put it into the main galley and send it everywhere.  :-\

If you do decide to run this plate, make sure to use ONLY low-detergent oils like the Racing types or the Castrol 4T series in 20w50 weights. Mobil 1 makes one 20w50 oil in their  diesel family that is low detergent, too. I use this in my K2 and like it a lot (no oil cooler needed: the oil runs almost 20 degrees cooler all by itself).

What about enlarging the holes?  May not be as cooling efficient then, but a thought.  Personally when my bike gets hot hot(living in Texas now this will be a trend) it started to lose oil pressure anyway.  As soon as I can afford to I'm switching to real oil cooler setup anyway.

  Wow! This is a problem related to the F2/3's that I hadn't heard of before, and I thought I'd heard them all. I've been running Rotella for the past few years so maybe I've unknowingly cured one my top end oil starvation issues? Do tell Mark, what are the other causes of oil starvation to the top end of the F2/3 engine? I'm pretty sure I know about one of them...

My brother called that one I guess. He took it off a parts bike looked it over and said if you want it it's yours, I don't think IO want it on my bike. He didn't like the clearances inside. He thinks a lot of oil might go past the filter too.
