350F ragged running
« on: March 30, 2011, 07:08:09 PM »
Hi, I have been working on a 350F and have it running (sort of).  When I get to about 4000 rpm it seems like it is missing or something.  it doesn't act like that when sitting on the kick stand but only when it is under load and running.  I looked at plugs and they seem ok.  buddy and i redid the carbs but that might still be the issue.. we aren't pros

any suggestions would be benificial.. I am not a mechanic so I probably am not providing enough info but I don't want to take to a mechanic if I don't have to..

thanks for any suggestions.

What did you do when you cleaned the carbs?  Did you get the emulsifier tubes out?  How about setting the ignition points?  Also, are you sure all cylinders are firing?

Sounds like an advance issue to me, it only happens under load at around 4K RPM? Maybe the advance weights are sticking or not traveling full swing?

well I don't have any idea what an emulsifier tube is so I don't know.  we did not set points but i am getting spark on all cylinders.  I have taken each plug out and watched the spark.  they are new plugs too.

I will try to find out what an emulsifier tube is and see if we did that or not.  thanks for the suggestions.

The emulsifier tube is where fuel from the main jet is frothed up before entering the throat of the carb. The main jet comes into play at greater throttle positions... higher load. Check out the FAQ carb section. It is very helpful.
