electrical question f vs k ignition switch
« on: March 29, 2011, 12:43:00 PM »
i'd like to use this f switch on my 76 750k if possible.
in reference to the picture, i'm calling the terminals 1, 2, and 3 across the top row, 4 and 5 on the bottom row.
when the switch is On, there is continuity at 4/5 and at 2/3.
when the switch is at P, there's continuity at 1/2.
so how should i connect the black, red, brown and white wires from my k wiring harness?
my understanding is that black/red and brown/brown-white are bridged in the On position. which of these would go to 4/5, and which to 2/3? have no idea about the parking connection.
the harness has already been cut, so i don't mind splicing in a fabricated plug.
thanks for any help.

Funny...I actually just went the other direction.  Using an F1 harness...I put on a K1 ignition.

Below is the K wiring diagram.  You have a four prong connection on your harness...and you have 5 prongs on the F ignition.  It is no big deal.

K models have 4 ignition switch wires, RED, BLACK, BROWN/WHITE and BROWN.  F model have 5 ignition switch wires, same as K but with an extra BROWN...so there is a BROWN1 and BROWN2.  B1 and B2 are simply merged immediately out of the ignition switch and continue back to the taillight as one main BROWN.

I am attaching both wiring diagrams.

On your F ignition switch, turn the key once and that is the "RUN" position.  In the RUN position, you should get continuity thru RED from battery out to BLACK that is your power lead out to the system. AND in RUN, you get continuity thru BROWN/WHITE from the Taillight Fuse out to BROWN1 this is your taillight power.

Turn the key twice and that is your "PARK" position.  In park, you should only get continuity from RED from battery out to BROWN2 to the taillight.

I can explain more...let me know where this gets you.

Actually...I can deduct the terminal "colors" based on your first post.

Term 1 = BROWN2
Term 2 = RED
Term 3 = BLACK
Term 4 = BROWN1
Term 5 = BROWN/WHITE

that's great. 2 has to be red doesn't it, since it energizes 1 on park. thanks very much, was pretty baffled until now.
