The Submarine
« on: April 04, 2011, 06:51:28 AM »
So, I got this bike as a project after my 87 vt1100 was stolen from me. I lived in this place that had an awesome little basement. My roommate and I spent 2 days fighting spiders and every bug know to the human race to clean out the basement. We had a nice little space down there that even had a fridge that we kept our homebrews in. I put the bike (81 Kawasaki 440) down in the basement and started looking for parts to get her going again. A month or two later it started raining. It rained a lot! Next thing I know, I go down to the basement to find my bike all the way under the water! That's why I now call it the submarine. I told the landlord about the flood, and all he said was that no one used that basement so he didn't really care. WTF?! Anyway, I pulled it out the other day because my friends who still live there got a sump pump a while back and drained it. This is what I pulled out. I even found an old homebrew in the fridge!

I'd sue the landlord !!!   >:(     You should have some kind of coverage under your rental agreement.  Also
check your local laws about this situation.  Do a search on Google.    ;)     Hopefully your rental agreement
you signed  didin't state as is condition.   :o    here's some info for ya.......

I know a couple guys that may be able to use some of the parts, so that's where it's going. I'm not going to mess with it. I think I only paid about $100 for it so I'm just cutting my loss and hoping someone I know can use part of it. I'm not really one to sue, so I just moved out of that place. The landlord was a real prick. The house recently changed management and the guys that live there said that they're getting everything fixed now. I told them your welcome because I raised hell to the management co when that happened.

Yikes!

I had a buddy who lived in a house with abasement like that.
Every time it rained a drop the basement would flood with 6-12 inches of water.
He lost a lot of stuff the first time it rained.
I was amazed he didn't die from breathing all the mold spores in the house... :-\

That was the main thing that surprised me about the landlord blowing it off. I even mentioned to him that it could mold. He just said that it would be ok. BTW, the homebrew was still good! ;D

Man, that really sucks!  How long was it under water?  If those wheels would fit a '75 KZ400 my son might be interested.

I think it was under for about 2 months. Once it was under I just said F it. I think the wheels will still be good, but I already told a local member I'd sell him the whole bike.

I'd go get another, but I should be moving out of the country by October. I'm just having fun doing little things here and there with my bike and helping my friends with their projects.
