1978 Honda CB400 Hawk TII needs a donor crank
« on: May 21, 2011, 03:44:18 PM »
I posted up in the intro section to say hi to everyone first, but got no responses, i hope its cool if my 2nd post is a question. :P

my 1978 CB400 TII spun a bearing and want to just get a new crank and not bother with trying to get the crank back in working order. Ive been looking on ebay and there are several cranks for the CB400, however im not sure if there are any differences between the years.

So which crank would fit my bike?

YOUR SECOND POST IS A QUESTION?!?!?!?!?

 ;)

What took you so long?

I'm sorry that I don't have an answer for your question, but after a little bit of research I have a suggestion: Try to stay within 78 or 79. The CB400T was made for four years. '78 though '81. The 80 and 81 had a different transmission (6 speed instead of 5 speed) and who knows what else different.

I think the 78 & 79 TI and TII are basically the same engine (TI's did not have Electric Start), so either should work.

that was what my take on it was.

The 6 speed is really just a set of gears though. But im not sure if the engine case was the same. the crank and the transmission gears should really have nothing to do with each other.

I would LOVE to stay with a 78 or 79 Ti or Tii. but i cant find one!
