73 cb500-4 top end rebuild
« on: April 02, 2011, 07:08:38 AM »
At the end of last season I noticed that my bike was starting to loose power. I looked at the front of the engine and noticed the front of #1 cylinder looked like it had oil convering the cylinder. So ive decided to give her a top end rebuild.  I am a little nervous because Ive never pulled cylinders with rods before. I pulled the cylinder on my old vespa but she was just a little 2 stroke. I have the gasket set but im confused as to what piston rings to get. From what I understand the cylinder could be over sized 3 or 4 times as ive seen 3 or 4 different piston sizes???? Im not able at the moment to pull the top off and check the cylinder size. Would it be a stupid leap of faith to buy the smallest stock size rings???  any thoughts or tips would be great. Thanks

just to save on many-many head aches measure to bore first-then order the right size pistons & rings, measure twice buy once,it will give ya a chance to see how bad cylinders are,
but thats just me-i have trust issues & i don't even trust myself :o
If i really cared--would it show?
