Interesting electrical issue.
« on: April 02, 2011, 11:35:58 AM »
81 cb650c. When my turn signal switch is in neutral, my right side signal stays illuminated. When I move the switch to the right.. it goes out. When I move the switch to the left.. the right illuminates. None of them blink. Also.. can't find the blinker relay? Not were my service manual says.. and im missing the wiring part of it. Fail.

I don't know the '81 at all.. does this bike use running lights? check all your bulbs, and espcially sockets for rust.

It's all stock?

Check all the ground connections.

Sounds like your left bulb is out, and your relay is fried. Can't tell you where it is, though. Where mine is is under the right side panel, near the top. If it's still oem, should be a little black box.

I would guess that the flasher relay has been either removed or is shorted internally.  Find out where it should be located and trace it back.
Hint here for future posts on your 650, include "650" in your header and the 650 guys'n gals will know to chime in. :D

Sorry I should say the fronts stay on.. the rears have no power. And in a moment of not thinking I disconnected both signals from the harness and can't for the life of me remember which power wire is to which side. Lol. Oops!

Left is always orange, blue is right on older Hondas. The t/s relay is a round can about an inch in diameter and a bit longer under the right side cover...Larry

If you're not finicky about being OEM, I just went down to my ocal auto parts store and bought an electronic 12 volt signal relay for about ten bucks. Works great.
