Installed new brake master cylinder
« on: April 10, 2006, 07:22:52 AM »
Due to my mushy stock master I finally got around to upgrading to the 93' ZX7R master that I got on ebay.  mounted no problem 7/8" bar. It took me and a friend about 40 minutes to bleed the system and holy cow.  The front brake is awsome and lever feel is just great.  Its a 5/8" piston and is just great.  If anyone is looking to use modern brake master go ahead and do it.  It really moves that caliper piston and keeps nice solid pressure on it.  And If I ever go dual brakes I have a master that can handle it no problem.  I'll take some pics and put up here tonight.

Good catch their Duster.
Most buell's do use 1'' bars, but the master I have is for 7/8, for some reason ?

Here are the pics as promissed.  I need to find a better cleaner mount for the resovior but for now it works fine for me.  I've also ordered a new silver lever to match the clutch and the clip that keeps the cap from backing off.

I rode my 500 (the one with the newly rebuilt master cylinder) over to a buddy's house and told him my trials over the rebuild. Was expecting some sympathy and was rudely treated to his laughter instead. He told me that those old master cylinders always had been and always will be complete pieces of #$%* and that if I had any sense at all I would have simply taken the opportunity to replace it with something new.

I hate him and I hate you guys too.  ;)

Noel, don't feel bad.  Just scan ebay for a new one.  I got mine for 20 bucks :)  I can't believe what some people are paying for 30 year old models.  I was watching one on Ebay last week and it sold for 125 bucks.  CRAZY.

After three hours of unholy frustration, not to mention very nearly losing an eye, I'll be damned if I'm not going to get every last shred of life from that master cylinder!

I've been collecting parts for the Goldwing double disk set-up, though, and don't have a Goldy master cylinder yet. Methinks I'll find a modern one instead.

So anyone know about modern calipers on these bikes?  ;)
