So yesterday, I totaled my '06 Mazda MAZDASPEED6... and now that the season is almost starting (Maine sucks), I need to get my 750K6 ready to survive the entire season while I figure out getting a new car... I am going to pay someone (my own personal ultimate sin of motorcycle repair) to check over everything and do some work so I can get it on the road sooner. I just really don't want to have to do any work in the middle of the season because it might mean that I have no form of transportation. It's not quite the season yet so most mechanics are slow, and could do it way, way faster and more reliably then I could.
So I need suggestions on things to do, and things to have the mechanic look at. The bike has 50k miles on it, and not a lot seems to have been done to it recently.
My list so far:
Already has new control cables, but I want new brake lines. Maybe stainless steel. (Worth it?)
Have him look at the brakes, maybe just buy rebuild kits (since they're cheap) and have it done anyways.
Have him crack the carbs and make sure everything is picture perfect. Have a real carb sync done (bike has been bench sync'd).
New wheel bearings. Have him check out the axles and the wheels. Check the spokes and true the wheels if need be.
New steering head bearings.
New swing-arm bushings, check/lube fork.
Have him check the electrical system for proper voltage.
New chain, check out sprocket.
Have him check the point timing, valve tappet clearance, cam chain.
Install an oil cooler? (Worth it?)
I trust the guy well enough that if I say 'check' I'm confident he'll actually look and tell me if it needs to be replaced... is there anything anyone could think of I could add to this list? I REALLY need this thing to be trouble-free this season, so anything I can do short of having the engine rebuilt I'm pretty much willing to have done. I'd almost have the engine rebuilt but I don't know how much that'd cost or how long it'd put the bike in the shop for... anyone know a reasonable estimate?
Thanks.
