CB550 ticks like a clock

So I just got this beast of a '75 550K running this past weekend and it's a blast to ride.  I don't want to put any heavy work into it, just want it to run for the season.  So coming from a '75 750F, this motor ticks and clicks and makes all kinds of noises.  Feels solid and pulls pretty hard otherwise.  Is this normal for the 550's to make so much noise?

No.

Unless, of course they've been neglected. ::)

You could try adjusting the tappets and cam chain tensioner, part of a major tuneup they should have every 3000 miles.

The clutch, primary chain, and transmission gears will clack and rattle if the carbs aren't in sync or equally clean.

If there is a specific noise you could localize, we might be able to address that.

Otherwise, flog it and throw it away when your're done beating on it.
