Seriously, did you build this bike?
« on: March 29, 2011, 06:07:20 AM »
I bought my bike, 1978 cb750F, in November after I got hit by a truck on my old bike. One of my friends drove me to the guys house to pick it up and I put all the paperwork in the car with him. Just last weekend he gave me the papers. The guy I got the bike from didn't know anything about bikes. I don't think he even rode it much. The person that he got the bike from apparently knew a lot about bikes. So, after reading through the paperwork provided by the guy who built the bike I found some really good info. My bike is not the normal 750. It's got the Cycle X 836 kit! It also has 530 x-ring o-ring chain and sprockets 17/48 teeth, Dyna S ignition with hot coils and wires, heavy duty clutch, webcam 63a cam, new Honda carb boots..... The list goes on and on. I love it! It was also Dyno tested to get the right jets on. 75hp and 50 torque, 10.5-1 compression. So, I just thought that maybe the guy who built this bike would be on this forum. All I know about the guy is that he was in KS(Hays I think). I would just like to say thank you to the person who built my beautiful bike! If you're anywhere near I'd gladly buy you a beer and talk about other things that may have been done to the bike, and see what other bikes you may be working on. I also thought it would be nice to share a good PO story on here because I'm not sure if I've found one yet. Thank you mystery mechanic!
Here are some pics of the bike

Yeah, I got it for $2000 and it came with a parts bike that I sold for $300. I don't mind saying that on here because I don't ever plan on selling it. ;D

Thanks guys. I was looking for a project cb750 when this one just fell in my lap. The guy was asking quite a bit more, but I did learn something from my tight wad dad. ;D Next, I need to learn how to keep my wife from being jealous of my bike. ???

If you find a way, let me in on the secret. I could use a little less of the crusty looks being shot at my old girl when she sits in the drive way.

Nice looking bike Radam, apart from needing a lick of paint on the headers it looks sound.
The only thing that bothers me is the carbs, they look to be pointing down at the rear, or is it just me?

Hopefully I'll get time to paint the headers this weekend. I've taken the carbs off and put them back on since those pics were taken, so maybe they look straighter now. I never noticed that though.

Might know, JUST when I thought things were coming together! I KNEW you had done some stuff, so wouldn't have doubted it, if you'd just have kept quiet. ;)  LOL  Well, anyway, That's one on me!

I painted the headers and did an oil change yesterday. Here is a pic of it now. I took the case savers off (I think they look too bulky), put new shocks on, and painted the headers since the pics that I posted when I started this thread.

I went with the Cycle X $75 pair. Everyone said that they're pretty rigid, but for that price I had to. They aren't that bad for me. I'm 200lbs and have them on the softest setting. They are pretty stiff, but I'm happy with what I got for $75.
