K7 hesitating between 1/2 and full throttle
« on: April 04, 2011, 11:40:57 AM »
So, after i got my bike two weeks ago, I have rebuilt the cabs, checked the plugs, adjusted valves, checked ignition (only rough check of contact gap and timing since i need to get a light), put pod filters on and started it up last night.

It started right away, ran nicely around idle. I took it out this morning, acceleration up to half throttle is great, after that, I need to roll the throttle back and forth, but got up to 90 on the frontage road in no time and it was pulling strong.

Here some details about the carb settings:
Main: 120 (original 115)
Needle 2nd clip (original is 1st clip for tis model, so i made it "richer")
Air screw: 2.5 turns out, (original, I think 1.5 turns)

From what I read in the FAQ about carbs, it seems to me my bike is running too lean. I haven't done any testing yet and not looked at the plugs either because I only  rode it for a couple minutes instead of having lunch today  :)

Does anyone have any suggestions on what i should be doing next? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

A plug chop will tell the tale.
Sounds like your mains are running on the lean side.

Are you talking about a hesitation? If so the K7 and 8 has a accel pump to handle that hesitation. It is a really small amount of gas in there and it spoils very fast. If you can get a peek open the throttle and see if there is a squirt of gas in the carb throat.

BobbyR, I had that checked before I put the air filters on. It "squirts" a small amont into each carb, whenever I open the throttle.

I guess I will do the plug test next and whatever the outcome is might try larger main jets. Since the bike is running well up to ~half throttle, it is unlikely that it's caused by the needle setting, isn't it?

Thanks again for your input, Olaf

Could be needle or a main jet, adjust one at a time and see what changes.
