Topic: Wiring Harness for CB750K2 - OEM versus NOS?? Any difference??

Hi all,
Now that I have the engine almost complete Im looking at a new wiring harness for my CB750K2. Ive seen a pattern part (OEM) one at David Silver Spares for the K2 but does anyone have experience with this pattern part? Is it the same colours/connectors as the original?? I have the part no. for a 1975 wiring harness but not for the 1972 750 - is there any real difference??

Hello Andy, I purchased the OEM Harness from David Silvers Spares a few months back. It is still in the package it came in as I'm not quite at the Electrical Re-assembly stage yet. Let me pull it out and compare it to my original harness. I can take a couple of digital pics if it would help you. Personally, after a very quick look and a good conversation with a buddy with a Norton, (he did this to his new harness) I'm going to solder all the connectors so that there is no possibility of a loose connection.

For your info, my bike is a CB750K3 but the build date is November 1972 and it has items from both the K2....AND...K3 models.....go figure. Now, I've owned this bike since 1980, and it was almost completely original then. (had a Kerker 4 into 1) I've since painted it a couple of times and it is completely dis-assembled right now. (OK....swingarm and rear wheel are installed....but that's it)

Give me a couple of days to sort things out and I'll get back to you.

Thanks Lou that was the exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for! Im doing something similar to you in terms of a rebuild and have brand new switches (K3 type) for the right hand side - looks really good. The K2 was the first bike I bought when I came to the States in 1999 and after some engine problems lay dormant for a couple of years and a friend of mine was using the electrics for parts so the harness got chopped along the way which is why Im looking to make all wiring new again! Look forward to your thoughts on the OEM harness. And good luck with your own rebuild!

Hello Andy,

so I went out to my garage this evening and took a few photos of the Harness for you. I'll post a couple here and you can e-mail me for the rest. I have 8 or 9 photos of both the new harness and my original one.

Point of interest, the wrapping seems to be quite light, I suspect that I'll spend some time and wrap it with "vulcanizing" tape. This will make it more resilient to water ingress......in the event you end up driving in the rain. As well, all the connectors are crimped. They appear to be loosely crinped.....so over beers and a chat with my Norton buddy, I've decided that I'm going to solder each connector. This should prevent any loss of electrons, and we all know that these old CB's need every little electron that the alternator produces.
